Gerrard just doesn't have his heart in it this season at least Mascherano plays every game with passion an his work rate is amazing at least strip gerrard so he has to work for it again ....just my opinion

This is the same Mascherano who's been courting interest from Barcelona for the last year, yes? Super.

Carragher or Reina would be the obvious choices after Stevie. If you want to make any kind of credible argument, that is.

We better keep the armband with Stevie G. If Rafa was about to changed that he would defo hand it over to his 100% present drive force in CM, the Anti Brazilian which is his favourite player in the world.....

What a load of BS, I'm sick of people having a go at Gerrard this season. The team has too many players who aren't good enough and we expect a half fit Gerrard to shoulder all the blame for that cos he isn't able to be superman all the time? Please, give me a break.

Quite.

Gerrard, like it or not, is the most important person at the club. I don't wish to get into a debate about player-power bollocks, but Gerrard is the reason we've won trophies in recent years. We wouldn't have been in the CL in 2005 were it not for him. We wouldn't have won the FA Cup were it not for him. It's really quite simple. He maybe a bit of a grumpy cunt and has tested our patience with the Chelsea saga, but ultimately he deserves far more respect from Liverpool fans at times. History will be kinder to him, that's for sure.

Besides, Mascherano is a walking red-card at times. And as Del points out, Reina and Carragher are ahead in the queue.

Wouldnt you be a grumpy cunt if you saw your favorite team put out Lucas every fucking minute of every fucking game???

I don't agree with your suggestion, shabuti, but welcome to the forum.

I hope you're not Momo or another one of those head fucks that bounce in from time to time.

I agree. He's not been good by his own standards, but then his own standards have had to be absurdly high over the years because we have got into the situation where he has had to carry us!

I don't understand why some people, when we are playing badly, can't wait to point out that Gerrard is not playing well, or proclaim (again) that Carra is on the way out (was the same with Hyypia for the last few years, conveniently forgotten by some now) yet fail to address the fact that the problem is with the players like Lucas whose general standards are average at best

Yes, but it's just in his nature. Even his friends have said he's difficult to get along with at times.

I do see your point.

There was a notable shift in passion and performance in the Spurs performance when Carragher was captain. Proper huddle beforehand, him shouting in their ear. We can't ignore that.

But lets not start demeriting one of the finest players ever to pull on a red shirt.

Can't be Momo, he would never advocate giving the captaincy to a foreigner.

The problem is that it was not a clever choice to start with, but it would be a massive mistake to take it from him and give it to someone else.
He is an inspirational player and in a lot of cases that would be good enough. Carragher has better credentials to be captain, as he showed in the Spurs game, he might have a fucking good go at people, but he is not whiney and sulky with them.
Reina will be the future Captain.
I am a massive fan of Mascher, but he is too indisciplined to do the job.
Welcome Shabuti, but I think you need to think that one through again though

regards

i agree gerrard is one of the greatest players we have we just need something to snap us all out this rut we keep getting into just a lil shake up an give players a wake up call

He's not Momo.

Welcome to the forum shabuti. Try and use the odd full stop or comma mate, otherwise it's fucking hard reading.

Oh, and Carra or Reina for captain IMO.

lol will do am a bit thick or dyslexic as the so called "doctors" says so i will try an be more grammatical

I think that's it in a nutshell.

Buuuut, had he not been captain, it may have been neigh on impossible to hold on to him during the "Chelsea advances" days.

A scrotum's a bag.

Or sack.

It would be quite cool to have a shell around your balls though. In fact, I think that would have been a better design. What was God thinking leaving them so poorly protected?

How can people say he hasn't been a good captain? Seriously.

He leads by example, his determination and desire to win are the perfect qualities any young or new player joining the club should look to learn from him.

Gerrard is one of the greatest players to ever play for us, and he has been a perfectly good captain.

Gerrard will be remembered as a great player, but not a great captain. He's too much of a sulker.

Fair enough question, Anita, but there are a number of ways in which Stevie hasn't been a good choice. He's poor at geeing people up and organising them on the pitch - Carra does all of that - plus his petulant reaction to poor play from teammates smacks of "look at me, I'm so much better than you" and doesn't help (for example, we actually improved when he went off against Reading). Fabulous player, no question, but NOT a good leader of men.
