Portsmouth's Traore joins Monaco
Portsmouth full-back Djimi Traore has signed a two-year deal with AS Monaco, who play in the French top flight.

The former Liverpool player spent the tail end of last season on loan at Birmingham, making three appearances.

Traore joined Liverpool from French side Laval at the age of 18 and went on to be part of their 2005 Champions League-winning side.

The 29-year-old Mali international made 136 Liverpool appearances in a seven-year spell at Anfield.

You may laugh, but Carra says in his book that Djimi gave "the performance of his life" in Istanbul after a poor start.

He came through the ranks after being signed as an 18 year old and I like the guy 🙂

Shame he's a bit shit though..

Djimi Troare is 29?!

The most comical player I've seen wear our shirt

Sounds harsh but I was delighted when we got rid.

Lol just told my chelski supporting colleague about the title of this thread, not impressed lol

Hardly a high standard to beat though.

Joking aside, fair play to the fella. He played his part

I was still delighted when we sold him though because he was really really bad.

Wouldn't argue with any of that, Richey. It's because the guy did do his bit that night that I tend not to take part in Djimi-bashing as a rule, but I do hope he's the last Bambi lookalike (or perhaps playalike) I see in the red shirt.

I can't lie, I used to dread seeing his name on the team sheet but in fairness to him he always tried his best and he was superb after half time in Istanbul. Good luck Djimi.

Djimi > Fat Frank.

Not sure if it actually happened in the end but there was one game years ago when (because of injuries) I heard the team news on the radio the day before and it was suggested that our defence might have included Traore, Biscan and Diao.

*shudder*

Reminds me of a rhyme about Arsenal's team I heard once on the old Fantasy Football show;

Parlour, Morrow, Hillier.
Can you think of a midfield sillier?

Well, made me laugh in about '94.

I'm pretty sure Benitez player Traore as a "left-winger" when he came on as a sub on one game.

He was no worse there than at LB or CB.

Marvellous own goal he scored.

I liked him. For all the wrong reasons.

I remember one of his first games which was against Arsenal, the one where McAllister got sent off. After the game he was saying that Vieira and co came up to him telling him he was doing really well and to just get his head down and work to stay in the first team.

I remember thinking maybe we've got a future French international on our hands.... Until we played Southampton. That's got to be the most comical defensive performance I've seen in years from a single player.
