Difficult choice when many players performed so well.
1. Can - scored the crucial first goal, set up the third and very calmly prevented a few potential defensive breakdowns in the first half by forcing his immovable frame between the opponent and the ball. Not a bad range of contributions for a holding mid, is it? Fully justified his selection over Gini and Hendo and showed what an important player he can be (or could have been) for this team.
2. Oxlade - a player I was sure wouldn’t get a start did start and what an improvement on his last few outings! Played with inventiveness and confidence throughout, set up Salah’s goal brilliantly and should have had another assist for Mane. Klopp’s ability to coax improvement out of under-performing players instead of Mourinho-ing them under the bus paid off here again.
3. I really wanted to give it to Milner who was once again central to our control in midfield, particularly when managing the lead, but I just can’t overlook Robertson’s attacking and overall contribution. Got an assist for the 4th, and should have had another for Salah’s header, LOVE how he is not afraid to cut inside Marcelo-style, the sharp passing, how he didn’t cross mindlessly but really picked his moments... Ladies and gents, we’ve got ourselves a left-back!
Honorable mentions to the aforementioned Milner, as well as Trent for being a swagmonster and Karius for a couple of key saves in the first half. For once no mention of the front 3, although they all scored and did their jobs - just needed to be more clinical.
