With Coutinho still being chased by Barca, and the feeling it's now a case when and not if, who would you see as filling his void if anyone? With the arrival Kieta and if Can does resign, the midfield is a position where the club has options and could reinvest the money in other areas.
Eriksen and Lemar would be players that would cost more than £70M, Mahrez purchase price is well documented at around £50m.
Hakim Ziyech should cost the least but he has been consistent in the Dutch league

Eriksen's not a realistic option.
Lemar might be. Mahrez is, 40-odd mil.
Can is leaving (I hope).
I'd still want another CM, a real ball-breaker.

Can't see us spending what would be required to sign Eriksen, not that I think he would join anyway, he will probably replace Iniesta at Barca. We will most likely go back in for Lamar this summer.

He's a good player and I'd be fine with that, but I'd sign Goretzka before any of them. We need a fair bit more grit and edge in midfield, esp.without a specialist DM.

If we are off loading Coutinho, then Nabil Fekir from Lyon would be worth looking at.
Arsenal are heavily linked with him already and he seems to be having a really good season.
The very little I have seen of him has been very impressive but more regular watchers of French football may have a better perspective on him

One of the more serious newspapers in Denmark has learned through their agent-contacts that Barcelona should indeed be preparing a bid for Eriksen com January.

Where would this leave us, I mean they'd hardly go for both of Coutinho and Eriksen in the same window even though that couple would make them sexier looking than Helena Christensen (almost).

Is there a likely scenario where the Catalans interest would fade in our main man and he'd somehow accept that and carry on playing for us? It's probably the best we can hope for at this stage as values are just insane and we'd never know if we could make a like-for-like replacement anyway. Don't get me wrong Goretzka seems a great player but there are still a lot of buts and ifs there.

........................Wijnaldum........Keita...................
.............................Coutinho.................................
Mane..........................Firmino.....................Salah

..is the not so unlikely dream right now.

I have a hunch Real might be in for Eriksen to replace a still effective but now just slightly aging Modric and, if that's right, Barca would presumably still be after Coutinho. In any case we need more than just Keita, great signing though he should be, to stiffen our midfield. Actually Modric himself might not be a bad shout....

Modric is the NUTS, but no way would Real Madrid let him go. One of the top 5 CM in the world at the moment IMO.

I’d be ecstatic with a Modric+cash deal for Coutinho.
I think Coutinho’s a brilliant player who’ll get even better, but he’s a certainty to be off in the near future. So fuck him off to his non-dream team.

I'm with you on Modric's quality, but he's only been coming on off the bench recently. Not saying we'll defo get him or anything, but if we get shedloads of cash for Coutinho and haven't committed that money elsewhere I'd like to think we might at least test the water where Modric is concerned.

I like Modric, but exchanging a player who is on the rise for one who's on the decline is generally a pretty poor strategy. Although there are exceptions – like when Pirlo moved to Juve at 31 or something like that and got even better.

Modric+CASH though Rurik. Not a pure player exchange as that would be mad.

I also like the idea of giving Barca the massive two fingers by selling to Madrid whilst still picking up a very classy player, even if in his twilight years.

Forsberg can be our new Dirk Kuyt. We need a player like him.
There are definitely similarities between the two but without being disrespectful towards ol' Kuyt I believe Forsberg's got better vision and overall skill.

Kuyt however was a more astute goal-scorer I guess. They pretty much share the same mentality, are hard-working and got this never-say-die attitude. Honest players, both of them.

I have to say I was very impressed with Modric having watched Real's two encounters with Spurs and I really do like the Pirlo comparisons too.

He just seems like a player that NEVER loses the ball or gives away silly possession. Hard-working, skilful and creative too. Any team would blossom with a player like him in midfield.

I'd like Lemar. He's not a like for like with Coutinho as he's probably more of a winger, but he's a very good player, and a productive one at that.

If we add Keita and Lemar, then I can see us moving full time to a 4-2-2-2 formation, which I think will be more profitable for this team long-term. Especially from a defensive standpoint.

Anyone who wants Mahrez needs a brain transplant, he's no where near an upgrade on what we have already.... he's a major downgrade in my eyes.

What is your vision for 4-2-2-2?

I like the thought of 4-2-2-2 – maybe it's a tad less exciting than the 4-3-3 we've mostly played under Klopp so far, but it should be also more defensively stable and at the moment that's what we need. This will also create another slot for a striker (in addition to Firmino) which I feel is a good thing for us long-term – it will lead to either buying a great striker or rapid development for the likes of Solanke, Brewster or Woodburn.

Exciting will be the death of all of us. A bit of stability and solidity would be lovely.
