....because of his age and the fact the 'asking price would be too high', according to Perez.

Good stuff.

Keeping Gerrard and Torres while replacing Mascher, Insua and Yossi with quality would be the perfect summer for me.

Could not see the point in Madrid signing Gerrard when they already have Kaka anyway.

I honestly hope this summer (the average WC + this statement from Perez) really pissed Gerrard off and he gives us a superb season. A fit & motivated Gerrard will make life much easier for Roy.

It probably means Gerrard's agent told Perez the player had decided to stay at Anfield, and he didn't want to admit the unpalatable truth to Real's supporters.

Thank you Stevie, if that's the case.

My thought exactly.

The price would be too high. He's worth a hell of a lot to us but he is 30. how much would we want to pay for a 30 year old?

If we get decent players in, a la Jovanovic, Cole, Figueroa, Turan, Defour etc (and good cover for an injured Torres) I think we could have an excellent season from both him & Torres (when fit).

This is such great news. I want gerrard to be here for life.
Imagine him playing for that shower of cunts. It would make me' feel sick

Indeed.

Either way, it's the best thing I've heard all summer*

*regarding Liverpool, not just life generally.

Either 1. They have been told the price which is over £30 million, and have baulked at it, or 2. Steven does not want to go and has told them so.
Either way, it is great news for us. And hopefully will go a long way to persuading some class to come and join the fun, and Fernando to stay a while longer.

Reports indicate that Stevie has washed his hands of the whole Read Madrid thing.

Waheey!

My only worry is Gerrard has so far been non-commital in his comments as far as his future is concerned. He may well ask Liverpool to lower their valuation to enable him to go to Madrid as a reward for over a decade of service.(much in the same way Thierry Henry, at a similar age, was allowed to go to Barcelona).

Mourinho wants to return to the EPL after 3-4 seasons max in Spain, a 3yr contract for Gerrard, chance to work with the top rated manager around, world class players competing for the top honours in the final years of his career, could prove too much to resist.
I think a deal could be done at around the £18-22m mark.

Stevie has told his friends he's staying at the club. Seriously, he's not going anywhere.

A nail in the coffin for the CUNTspiracy theorists.

I don't think the World Cup has helped either, tbf. It's potentially had an impact on what the buyer would consider a 'fair' asking price, especially given recent injuries and his age too, it could be argued by the buying club that he's in decline and his best days are behind him, which seems to have put us in a strong position. We can put a big price on his head because he's one of our prized assets, knowing that teams may avert the attentions to a younger player.

I read an article this morning that said according to one of the Madrid transfer brokers we quoted them £60m for Gerrard.

Which means we were telling them to "fuck off".

Gerrard doesn't need to say anything. Everyone would like him to stay and he probably will.

It's the first time that Real are "priced" out of a move. I get the feeling that Gerrard turned them down. It's a slight for them because nobody is supposed to turn them down. They are the mighty Real Madrid after all. Their PR machine is in overdrive.

What a joke!

I think ideally he should change his answer machine message every day to reflect what's going on. Today it might say something like, 'I Steven Gerrard unambiguously commit my entire being to Liverpool FC. I signed a contract 427 days ago that ties me to the club for a further 1013 days.'

I'm sure he could get it to auto update and sound sincere.

The last bit might be a push for Gerrard.
