Maccabi Tel Aviv teen Omri Altman flew to England this morning for trials with Liverpool, according to Israeli reports.

The One Web site reports that Altman was invited for the trial after a Liverpool scout was sent to Israel to look at talented teen.

He is said to be one of several scouts from top European sides who marked Altman out as a target.

The 16-year-old midfielder plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv 's youth team and for the Israel Under 17s side, who are coached by former Watford midfielder Alon Hazan.

Altman even scored the equalising goal for Hazan's side in their 2-2 draw against Croatia in a recent Euro 2011 qualifier.

Altman is described as a strong and creative attacking midfielder, with excellent explosiveness, athleticism and ball control.

Liverpool are set to give a trial to Maccabi Tel Aviv teen Omri Altman, according to Israeli reports.

So who is this 16-year-old hoping to follow in the footsteps of his compatriots Avi Cohen, Ronny Rosenthal and Yossi Benayoun?

History and current form

Altman grew up in the Maccabi Tel Aviv youth ranks, and it wasn't long before he was being talked about as a massive prospect.

The young midfielder currently plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth team and for the Israel Under 17s side, who are coached by former Watford midfielder Alon Hazan.

Last Saturday, Altman scored his fifth goal of the season in a 6-0 win for Maccabi Tel Aviv against Bnei Yehuda.

And two weeks ago, Altman hit a hat trick in his side's 7-0 thrashing of Maccabi Tel Aviv B in the youth league.

Altman also scored the equalising goal for Hazan's side in their 2-2 draw against Croatia in a recent Euro 2011 qualifier.

Strengths

Despite his age, Altman has impressive body structure, and he is described as a strong and creative attacking midfielder, with excellent explosiveness, athleticism and ball control.

Altman's power, touch and athleticism particularly impressed the Liverpool scout sent to Israel to watch him, and the Reds representative underlined those attributes in a report he compiled on the player to his employers at Anfield, according to Israeli sources.

Tipped for greatness

Israel Under 17s coach Hazan was full of praise for the youngster, and has tipped him to reach the very top.

"It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that he has been invited to a club like Liverpool," said Hazan. "I think it was a year and two months ago, when we set up the team, a journalist called me and asked me to pick out a player from Tel Aviv who I thought would stand out, and I immediately, without thinking twice, said Omer Altman."

"He has all the elements you look for in a player at the highest levels," he continued. "He has physical fitness, excellent technical ability, and the ability to combine the defensive and attacking sides to his game intelligently, not like a 16 year old kid."

"He also has a great mentality, he always puts in the effort even thought he knows his worth," he added.

And Hazan went even further, declaring, "If Omri moves to Liverpool today I can say with absolute certainty that at 21 or 22 he will be a super important player at the club. The club will instill in him virtues of the highest level."

So what will Liverpool's verdict on the youngster be, and will he be another Israeli to grace the red half of Merseyside?

man the pitches some of these kids play on are terrible, worse than what i play on in my league!

i know as much about omri altman as brendan and oncey do ... so zilch.

Those pitches are a mess really.

And that's about all you can tell from those clips as the sheer lack of pace in those featured clips/games is impressive.

He doesn't seem spectacular in any way though and the fact you haven't even heard about him mate doesn't fill me with confidence at all. But then again it's only a trial so no harm done I reckon.

*Do we have a scout somewhere who's first and foremost scouting facial measures and looks? His resemblance with Lucas in that picture is uncanny. Frightening almost.
 
The only reason why you hear about Israeli starlets, unless they're playing in your home town, is if a) they reach the seniors or b) they're playing abroad.

So now I know him, and I'll ask some mates.

More or less the same in Denmark, I just assumed you would've heard something if he was a major talent.

Ah well who knows maybe he's the new RONNY!!
