When the 27-year-old was embroiled in his transfer saga last summer, he made his desire to play in the Champions League very clear. However, Suarez stayed and signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool in December, and the Uruguayan international says he signed it for the right reasons.

Asked whether he would stay even if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League, Suarez told FourFourTwo magazine, “I think so. I signed my new contract because I’m very happy here and I want to stay where I’m enjoying football and life. Playing in the Champions League isn’t dependent on that.” However, Suarez is relishing the opportunity to help Liverpool qualify and bring home the famous European Cup nights at Anfield nest season. Brendan Rodgers’ side currently sit second in the Premier League with 10 games to go, needing a top four finish to confirm their place amongst UEFA’s elite in 2014/15.

“I’d actually prefer not to win this Golden Boot and for Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League this season,” said Suarez said. “Any player would miss the Champions League. We’ve not been good enough since I’ve been here to qualify, but this could definitely be our year. “It would be a frustration not to get fourth because we’ve done everything possible and given our maximum to qualify.

“Everyone says Champions League nights at Anfield are amazing – memories you guard forever. It would be an unforgettable experience and it’s been too long since that happened. I think to finish in the top three, which is still possible, would be incredible with the players we have in the squad.”

Yep, and if he stays, and Henry gets his chequebook out, we could be amazing next season. If we'd have been better at the back this season we'd have been unbeatable.

If we'd been better at the back we would have had teams sit back and not try and attack us as much. Attacking us is very dangerous indeed.

If Cardiff had been better at the back they'd have also been unbeatable, what a nothing statement.

"I like winning. I hate losing - I've done enough of that. I'm one of the best players in the world, so having the opportunity to win everything - and losing only occasionally - is what drives me. I'm ambitious. I want to win and won't stop until I score one, two or more goals."

CRINGE

Very encouraging words ! I was resigned to losing him in the Summer when/if Real or Barca came in with a big offer. If they do then he may still be tempted, any South American would be. We'll see, easy to say now but it may be a different matter with whispers in his ear at the World Cup.

Its all very nice but I think it's a silly interview really, primarily because it's not fucking true and e are kidding ourselves if it is. IF we don't make the CL... and considering we've got some very fucking tough home games left it is still very much a possibility... then Suarez would rightly try and engineer a move and we know it.

Happily I think we probably* will make the CL so... no problem...

Suarez is on the verge of making me love him all over again. He has matured and his performances are speaking volumes to all and sundry. Keep it up Luis!

So if failing to qualify for the champions league isn't necessarily going to effect Suarez's future with Liverpool can the opposite be true as well.
ie even if we do qualify for the champions league it won't change his future thinking.

That's it! He's cleverly switched it around so he'll leave if we qualify and stay if we don't.

The only time we can be confident of Suarez still being with us next season is after the transfer window closes at the end of the summer.

The scenario appears to be either he stays because we won the league (awesome) or he 'reluctantly leaves because it was too good an offer' in the summer and we get 70m (There are worse things).

I think that he's planning to stay but if the right offer comes in for him, he'd still be up for the move.
