Luis moving out wide

The front 3 will shift positions constantly though and find space be it on the left, right or centre.
You can see Rodgers point, to often when Suarez is the creator we have no one in the box.

We're getting more players in the team that can score goals, isnt that what we want?
Suarez will score goals wherever he plays in the attacking 3 positions.

And guess what, if it doesnt work we can actually change things around....

Yes, but my point was that he doesn't play a CF role (I never said he didn't play in the middle). When he was playing with Villa, Villa was playing in the traditional CF position, yet it was Messi grabbing the goals. The point is that Suarez needn't be less effective or less of a threat just because he isn't leading the line.

Villa played out on the left most of the time.

You're still rather spectacularly missing the point.

Heh. Just because I don't acknowledge it doesn't mean I don't get it.

In theory Suarez can be very effective in a floaty role starting out wide. Whether theory will turn out to be reality we shall have to see. Hopefully it will all be good.

On his second against Sunderland he comes from the wide position, were Downing drags the CD out of the central position to make way. Things can work if people just move their feet, look for space, and pass the ball accurately. Pluss man up the box of course!

I'm not so worried about Suarez maybe lining up on one of the flanks as with Enrique and Johnson both being quite attacking he can afford to keep on making his runs inside or wherever. If anything, I think he'll benefit from being able to run wherever knowing it is someone elses responsibility to stay in the box.

When it comes to counter attacks etc anyway I'm sure he will be more central which is when he is flourishing for us.

Was quite good in practise at Ajax.

I think people can get bogged down with starting positions. As Rodgers has said, he likes players who can play in multiple positions, so I suspect they'll be a fair bit of swapping around, even within games. I think the most important thing is that we have three players in the final third who can actually score goals. What's more, I think Suarez will score from any of the front three positions, cos he's different class.

Luiz will be great wherever he plays.
He scores and creates from out wide on both sides of the pitch regularly. A non-issue for me.
My main concern is Rodgers, as usual, telling all and sundry every possible tactic he might employ. He sure enjoys pontificating and hearing the sound of his own voice. Name me one other top manager that spells out what he's going to do to opposing mangers all the time. It's weird. If a journalist asked him his exact tactics and formation for the United game I would not be at all surprised if he spells it out exactly.

I suppose it is a lefty playing on the right and vice versa so they tend to cut in rather than hug the touchline. That's only a guess like.

Surely that should be an inverted winger or something.

A reverse winger would be one that defends rather than attacks.

So Durk Kuyt then....

Not really . He was a one trick pony who started out left and cut in to the middle EVERY SINGLE TIME. You may have seen this move in a red shirt.

Not to mention the fact that comparing Luis Suarez, who already has 15 goals in the league this season, with Ryan Babel, who scored 12 league goals in 4 years here, is utterly, utterly moronic.

I agree about Rodgers mouthing off about it. Although I'm hoping there's something more behind it than just telling people what he's thinking. It may be that he wants to give Sturridge an early confidence boost, and is as confident as you and I that Suarez will be largely unaffected by it.

Maybe, I guess I just don't like our manager banging on about stuff that should be worked out by the opposition, not flagged up by our manager.

Can anyone explain to me what the hell a reverse winger is ?

I've heard inverted winger before but never heard "reverse winger" before either. To me that sounds like a winger playing backwards. Maybe that was Downing's problem the past year and a half.

mouriniho does it all the time doesnt he? dont think it's an issue

It's mad that we've been crying out for a winger for years and now we have a real one. It's mad that we cried out for pace for years and we now have it in abundance. It's mad that we've needed two goalscoring forwards in the side for a long long time and we now have them.

It's mad that we still, not matter the fuck what, STILL find something to pick holes with and have a good moan about!

Quit moaning ffs.

Suarez will play pretty much where he pleases during a game, regardless of what his position is called. It's up to the others to move accordingly.

Except Maureen has won everything in the game over and over again and different clubs. Our manager has won nowt so far. We'll see.

Top manager but he deffo has a tried and tested formula. He takes successful teams, spends billions of pounds on them and continues to win.

Mark - Strurridge had some easy chances after his first goal, and he missed them. Yes we have all the tools up front now, but can they complete the task on a regular basis ? we ONLY won that game 2-1, and with a PL team were held back for much of the 2nd half. I would say at the moment looking at our team - we have the tools, but can they deliver when it counts ? - that has been the story this season, and even for much of last.

The only reason it stayed 2-1 was because of that God awful pitch.
No - it stayed 2-1 because we missed some very good chances in that first half, that is really poor excuse Modo. My boy Downing could have had some more assists to his name BUT for bad finishing by some of our so called strikers, and goal-scorers. Please don't forget that the team we played is so down below us that I was actually shocked to learn the score was 2-1. That's the margin and score of last year against Manchester United.

I'm not too worried about the general performance. We practically had our reserve team out today, and the pitch looked like the ploughing championships were after being held on it. I'm more worried about certain individual performances from lads who are supposed to be our back up like Coates and Robinson. I'm also worried about well below average performances from Lucas and Allen.
