I Moustache You a Question

I'll admit that it took me a long time to warm up to this kid, but even in his first game back for us, he showed that we have certainly missed him. He could be more key to our resurgence than a striker in January.

Rubbish.
He's a DM and that won't have any bearing on our attacking, our defending or our midfield balance.

Lol. I love you man.

But obviously you've been right about him for a long time - just don't be bitter and twisted about it. Let it go.

As expected a bit rusty and off pace, but a great performance.
He'll probably have a couple of poor games on the road to full recovery but the balance in the team was so much better today.

Great to have him back.

His return to the team enabled Joe Allen to play further forward than he has done before.

Surely when we are at home to teams like Southampton playing Lucas should negate the need to play Allen. Having two holding/defensive midfielders on the pitch at home to teams with limited ambition to attack seems counter productive. Lucas being back should allow us to play more attacking football.

It's interesting that the longer Lucas is injured the greater the player he becomes, I almost expected us to win 12-0 whereas if he was out for 4 weeks I would only have expected us to win 6-0.

There has got to be some clever exponential equation to derive the 'Lucas Win Factor' the LWF if you will but unfortunately I possess the mathematical brain of a lobotomised woodlouse and am beyond this simple reasoning.

I love this lad. He's my tip for Liverpool's next captain.

If he stays and stays healthy, Agger would be my first pick. Lucas would be in the mix, but Agger just has that extra edginess that says "Listen to my command or I'll tat your bollocks".

Allen isn't a 'holding midfielder'. He's had to do it because Lucas has been out. Allen is a creative, 'between the lines', linky player, and he's very good at it. Lucas coming back will do the world of good.

didn't see the game ...did lucas's return make any difference to allen's performance at all ?

Lucas' presence enabled Joe Allen to play further forward. Allen didn't have a particularly outstanding game but I thought we were getting more players into the opposition penalty box than we usually do.

So it's fair to say then that at some stage in the future we'll need to buy cover for Lucas as when he's missing the other lads can't do anything like his job or their own properly.

Probably shouldn't have let Spearing go on loan either . At least he would have allowed the others to keep playing their normal game and not turn to shite after the loss of one player .

And both our full backs, there were times when we had 5 or 6 players in attacking positions, where as before it was 2 or 3

Still can't understand why he replaced him with carra with time almost up. Was he only fit for 87 minutes or something?

To get an ovation on his comeback mate. Thats standard management from the ladybird book of football management

I heard a funny theory about late substitutions the other day. This is apparently rife in the lower leagues, that managers demand a cut of a player's appearance fee to give them a run out. E.g. Give me 30% and i'll throw you on for the last 5 mins etc. Great side income if true!

To be fair, I'm over the moon that he's back, as it gives much more balance to the team. But, he's not messi is he, and his skillset isn't exactly hard to replace on the cheap if we had to go into the market to replace him, whereas someone like suarez would be.

Lucas skillset:
Work hard for 90mins
Tackle
Sit infront of the back 4 and protect incase we get caught out
Pass either sideways, or short distance forwards
Don't contribute with goals or creating chances for the other forwards

Surely that sort of player could be picked up for about 3mill if we needed one. Momo was pretty much the same, apart from he couldn't grasp the bit about passing to his team mates after winning the ball.

I'm glad he's back, and a player with that limited skillset offers a lot of balance to most teams, but he's on that list for me of players that I'd not be arsed about losing if the right money came in for him, with Downing, Henderson, Carroll etc.

Yes it sounds so simple when you put it that way.

Mind you if we had to have someone who, could as you say could " sit in front of the back four and protect incase we get caught out", we would probably be shallenging for at least 4th spot now.

As with us not having any strikers in the squad, we also don't have a spare out and out DM for some reason 🙁

You're taking his game intelligence for granted.
Players with ridiculous amount of natural talent, such as Gerrard, have failed in that position. Players with little talent, such as Spearing, have been shite in that position.
Top teams are always on the lookout for players in that position for a reason.
There aren't that many that can excell in that position.
Comparing him to Suarez isn't really fair.
But is he easier to replace than the rest of the squad? I think the answer's a big capital NO.
