Lucas and Gerrard

Worrying thing is they are both pretty much undroppable when fit. He'll never bench the captain, and Lucas seems immune to it too. We could play a middle 3 of Hendo, Allen and Countinho and it wouldn't be worse than those pair tonight.

I think I'd have Hendo as a holding midfielder, swap Lucas for Coutinho and manage Gerrard as a 60' man with Moses coming on for the final 30'.

Hendo because he has an engine and can get tackles and blocks in, Coutinho as he has creativity and Gerrard's role changed because he while he can play a captains role I don't think he has 90' of stamina and because Moses can stretch tiring opposition.

I feel slightly dirty talking formations but I feel we need to mix the midfield up a little.

Hendo can run but his positional sense is not good enough to replace Lucas.

No one is going to look good as a holding midfielder while the midfielders in front of him are so insipid. When two, three or sometimes four opposing players just breeze past the others and run at the holding midfielder, he's not going to be much use.

Typically, your midfield 3 in a 352 with the inverted triangle involves having your holding player, and ahead of him two well rounded runners. Juve plays Pirlo holding, with Marchisio and Vidal doing the running, as well as tracking back.

If we want to use a normal triangle, we can't pair Lucas with Gerrard, we need more energy from whomever plays next to Lucas. It's feasible that Hendo could play that role, but I don't know if BR will be willing to swap Gerrard for him. Allen is another possibility.

So Lucas or Gerrard if Gerrard plays the Lucas role? If we keep changing formations to suit the players we have but we can't get it to work it probably isn't the formation that makes the difference

I wanted Rodgers to make a ballsy move, subbing Gerrard for Allen in the last 20 minutes. Gerrard produces average performance from the beginning and completely out of gas by the end, and he still can't get subbed?

A load of bollocks that wouldn't matter if he wasn't famous. Probs best not discussed on here until it comes out. PM sent.

I think it's time to revert to four at the back. We're struggling in midfield as it is, so we may aswell push Gerrard back in behind the front two, less defensive responsibility in an area where he can do what he does best and pick out passes. Give Coutinho the left sided floating role, like what Gerrard used to do on the right, with Sturridge or Suarez playing more to the right of the attack. Let the three average Joe's fight it out for the two central midfield spots and get Enrique back at left back, with Toure and Johnson battling for the right back spot. Let Skrtel, Sakho and Agger fight for the two centre back berths.

We had three defenders against one forward yesterday and a piss poor three man midfield against their five, while Cissokho and Flanno didn't really know if they were coming or going. Totally naive when you consider how Dortmund and Chelsea set themselves up against Arsenal. We need to show that versatility once again, and not get stuck with a tactic because it was forced upon us for a game or two.

Fulham's an ideal game for us to try and find a bit of balance.

I don't think we'll change it up too much. Rodgers won't want Coutinho out wide or Henderson on the right, it limits them both.

All we found out yesterday is that our midfield isn't top of the table good. It's still probably top 4 good, no team has a better midfield than Arsenal at the mo I don't think

Bit of a telling stat, but I read before the Arsenal game that no keeper in the Premiership has had more shots to save than Mignolet.

That's because our midfield provides no protection for the CBs. Look at Ramsey yesterday, he was just outside the box and was in behind all of our midfield.

Gerrard is more of a passing man than a running man now 🙁

Stevie is reminding me of what digger did for us in his finals days

He lost his pace got a bit fat so went in the middle as he was still our best passer.

Stevie can do that no problem but needs a dynamic man slightly in front of him.

Surely time to give Allen a go.

Both had 87% passing completion. So they were clearly not as bad as you're all making out.

I thought that is what people used to judge players nowadays ?

Ohh look, a loss has brought Ross out of retirement!

It's been nearly two months...

I came back to ban Binny for bumping threads all the time.

I'm not in any way surprised / angry / interested by our defeat at Arsenal. It's pretty obvious we had a handy start to the season and the minute we came up against a good team this would happen.

It's now being reported that Gerrard has 'a slight hip problem'. Maybe that's going to be excuse enough to rest him.
