Looking To Purchase Golf Clubs - Experts Required

Currently looking at buying a set of golf clubs, and have my eyes on this listing - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/coop...ub-set-callaway-top-flite-cyclone-/1007103436

I've put in an offer to the Seller for $300 which he has accepted - for our UK residents that roughly 180 GBP.

I'm not looking to spend more than $300-$350 ... I play socially every now and then with friends, so I'm not chasing top of the range golf clubs.

Would like some advice on whether to go ahead and purchase these clubs.

They are listed as 'Callaway Top Flite Cyclones' ... I've done some research, and 'Top Flite' is a range of clubs offered by Callaway, however there seems to be no relase by Callaway called 'Top Flite Cyclones'.

I've posted on RAWK and someone has suggested that these are probably fakes.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That's a decent price and you could a lot worse, but it's kinda not the point.

It's like buying a suit on the internet. You might get a good label and some good cloth, but it's unlikely to fit you so you'll have to spend a fuckload getting it adjusted and tailored, and by that stage you've ruined the shape it was originally intended to be in.

My advice - go to your local golf shop. One that has a PGA professional, and get him to fit you up for clubs. If he knows what he's doing, and if they've got the equipment in the shop - then he'll measure and analyse your swing and reccomend the right clubs for you - regardless of price. They take all sorts of shit int consideration - height, stance, swing plane, strenth, grip, weight, blah blah blah. eventually he'll put a club in your hand it'll feel 'right'.

Then you've got two choices. Do the noble thing and buy them off him for whatever exorbitant price he quotes you.

Or do what the rest of the world does, and say "yeah, cheers I'll go home and think about it/go to the ATM/ask my wife/blah blah blah" then go home and search for them on the net, where you'll get them cheaper.

Those clubs might seem like a good deal to you right now, but you'll be playing golf for fucking years -spend an extra month and ensuring you're buying the right clubs. you won't regret it.

I did all of that about 12 years ago, and I've still got the same set of King Cobra Irons to this day. Wouldn't swap them for the world.

They probably are fakes...

Golf is a game of feel, so for the clubs to feel right you have to get a set that is setup for you - so getting a set that are correct can only be achieved by getting measured for them.

Having said that I never have and i play to a decent standard 10.7 and I have a set of Taylor made RAC's lovely set, long, nice high ball flight....I just went to a golf shop and tried several irons out to see which ones felt comfortable once i had done that I purchased them and am well happy with them.

If you don't play that much golf id recommend you go out and a starter set of clubs for a couple of hundred. I got a great full set of wilsons about 7 years ago with a bag and trolley for less than €300 and they're still in great nick. When the day comes that i can play more regularly I'll fork out for an expensive set. In the mean time these Will do fine.

Cheers for the feedback.

I remembered that the Managing Director at my company is a big golfer - usually goes to Canada, US & Asia to play Golf for leisure every few months.

Thought I'd ask him for some advice ... he just said to me, don't buy any clubs, I have so many sets laying around at home I'll give you one .... sweet as 🙂

So he brings em in this morning ... a full set of irons (inc. Pitching & Sand Wedge) - the brand is Crane, never heard of them but they look pretty good ... Also included are 3 woods by Callaway.

To top it off, the golf bag is MINT.... by Mercedes Benz.

Hit the jackpot on this one 🙂
