According to the Coventry local newspaper
Coventry Telegraph said:Coventry City maintained their promotion push with a dramatic 4-3 victory against Barnsley last night.
But they will be forced to revamp their team for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Northampton Town with Adam Armstrong and Ryan Kent, who supplied three of the goals at the Ricoh Arena, ruled out by their parent clubs.
Kent, in fact, has returned to Liverpool – temporarily, hopes City boss Tony Mowbray – because new Anfield chief Jurgen Klopp wants to run the rule over his young assets.
But Joe Cole, who opened his Sky Blues account with a magnificent free-kick last night, is available to face the Cobblers, if Mowbray decides it won’t be stretching the fitness of the former England man who turns 34 next week.
City will also be without midfielder Romain Vincelot, who picked up his fifth booking of the season for an injury-time flare-up when he tried to prevent Barnsley re-claiming the ball from the penalty that put them within striking distance of a remarkable comeback.
“We’ll have to make changes,” said Mowbray, “but we’ve got the squad to accommodate that - at least in the forward positions.
"Ryan is going back to Liverpool for a few days prior to the international call-up so that the new coach can have a look at him.
"All the loan players are going back for a few days I think, that's fine by us; that's good. When a new manager comes in he wants to have a look at all of his players."
“I might have made changes in any case because I think tonight’s match demonstrated that some players were suffering from their exertions on Saturday.
“It’s ironic that a week or so ago we were on the point of getting six successive clean-sheets and now we’ve conceded five goals in two home games.
“But the positive thing is that we are scoring goals – and what goals they were. You couldn’t have written the script for Joe but that’s the sort of quality he has.”
Cole, who was taken off moments after his strike, said: “It was nice to get the goal, especially from a free-kick.
“I’ve played in teams with great free-kick takers, the likes of Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard so I have not taken too many in my career.
“I could send a few players away who wanted it but it’s hard to do that when Beckham’s in the team.
“It’s nice when you’re winning and we know there still work to be done and the best thing about it is the lads were in the dressing room disappointed with the performance and that shows the standards of a good team.
“We all wanted to play better tonight but we still got three points against a Barnsley side who are better than their position suggests.”
