Think this has already been posted.

😉

Pathetic. So in reality our summer ended when Johnson was on board.

May as well have stopped clicking the refresh button then and there.

Next summer - my mistakes will be rectified.

20M a year is fine for the next few years.

We don't need an overhaul to win the league. It simply needs to be spent on one or two positions each summer, not four or five.

Exactly.

And if I read the full report correctly (not in this thread) then that is 20M NET. Therefore sales of any players can be added to that 20M. e.g if Masher is offski next Summer for say 35M then we will have roughly 60M to spend (less tax and including sales of minor players).

That should be more than enough to maintain or even improve on the quality of the team as a whole.

Re: Liverpool's £20m buying cap revealed in club report

The only worry is Carragher will be gone in 5 years, and it's impossible to say how good Gerrard will be then.

In short, Benitez will have to do a lot right with little cash. But he is capable: Reina, Alonso, etc. We simply can't risk any Robbie Keane's or Dossena's.

The reassuring thing in this is that under Purslow we seem to be taking budgets and transfer targets more seriously than before.

I would think Squiggs that within 5 years we will be 100% Arab owned and maybe then budgetary limits will not be so restrictive.

Does that include Wage increases too?, if it does then 20 million will not be a lot.

Yes it does. Which is key really.

We had £20m to spend this season and yet our net spend on transfers amounted to zero because the entire budget was swallowed up by the cost of new contracts.

Admittedly, there were a number of sizable extensions offered this season but even so, if we have any ambition to win the league, we cannot afford to rely on selling top players each summer just to bring in new signings. It's an incredibly risky way of operating and could backfire enormously.

I can't believe anyone would be happy with this scenario.

So 20 million with a player maybe like Masher gets a wage increase from 30 k to 90k would mean over 5 seasons that's a total cost of 12 million which leaves 8 million, 20 million will not in that case be enough...
