Liverpool Want £25m Brazil Striker as Answer to Goal-Scoring Problems

Liverpool are hoping that they can persuade Internacional to part with star striker Leandro Damiao during the January transfer window as Kenny Dalglish attempts to address the clubs lack of goals.

The Reds have the joint best defensive record in the Premier League with Manchester City, having conceded just 13 goals, but Dalglish's side have scored just 18, 30 less than the league leaders.

Dalglish has brought the likes of Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez and Craig Bellamy to Anfield in the last year, but it seems another front man is topping his list of targets.

Brazil international Damiao has been in outstanding form for Internacional ever since becoming a regular in the first team at the start of last season.

The 22-year-old has scored a staggering 40 goals this year and has emerged as one of the most in-demand striker in South America, with the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal both showing an interest in the forward.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with Barcelona striker David Villa but the club would have to spend close to £40million to land a striker who is already 30-years-old.

The clubs transfer policy is to bring the best young players to the club and it is perhaps far more likely that they would attempt to make an offer for Damiao.

A number of European clubs have shown an interest in Damiao, but Liverpool are hoping that by making an offer of £25million they will be able to persuade the Brazilian side to part with the forward.

Don't do this, I don't want to get excited over nothing. Who the heck is he anyway? Youtube or GTFO.

Oh and i'd rather eat my own vomit than this.

I think I'd rather go for someone younger than Villa. 40m is a lot of money for someone who's 30.

I like the sound of this Brazillian guy, he ticks all my boxes.

Young - tick
Great record - tick
Foreign name - tick
Never heard of him - tick

£25m on someone that NOONE EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD has ever heard of ?

Eek.

He's getting games up front for Brazil these days.

Surprising thing is he's more of a target man with good heading ability. Could spell curtains for Carroll if true.

I've never seen him play, by the way.

SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGN HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM!!!

He's up there with Neymar and Ganso as the biggest prospect in South America. Stylistically, he's probably similar to Carroll (though not exactly) - so I'm not sure what that says about Carroll if we sign him.

Honestly, I don't see any way out of the 35 million commitment we've made. On current form, there's no way anyone's going to give us back even a third of that, and so it probably makes vbest sense to persist with Carroll, and figure out a way to make him fit in the team in the long run. It's why I can't see us being in for someone like Damiao or De Jong, who both seem to be big target men.

In any case, the whole of Europe will be after Damiao, so chances of us getting him would anyway be pretty slim.

I prefer that to £35m on a player that we've seen...

Remember when our South Americans were all shit!
Gonzales, Palletta, Pellegrino...
Now the best three players we have are South American.
Maxi, Suarez and Wonderman (who Neville was just drooling over).
With that in mind...

I SAY SIGN!!

Honestly with Carroll keep him as a third striker and maybe he'll come good. What's to loose? We'll gain more having him here than getting rid of him. Sign this guy dont let Carroll's price stop that.

Yeah, he looks the business alright. We dont have to sell anyone if we sign another striker given that we need more options upfront. Fuck it might even help Carroll find his feet if our goalscoring duties are shared by another striker.

Daimao is meant to be the shit, but i've never seen him play, so i'm refusing to get excited

i honestly don't know what'd be best to do about Carroll. i can't see him really appreciating significantly in value, especially if we sign a replacement. i'm beginning to think we should just cut our losses, though. what'd we get? i reckon defo more than £10m, but possibly no more than £15m.

i'd sell for £15m, i think.

35M on Andy Carroll.

based on that trick, sign him, i cant even do that in fifa
i reckon we just stick carroll in the reserves, he'l start scoring goals n remember what it feels like to push little kids around, or he'll still be shit and we can move on

Leandro Damião da Silva dos Santos (born 22 July 1989), commonly known as Leandro Damião, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a striker for Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club Internacional. He has been capped at international level by Brazil.

Damião began his career as a midfielder, playing for local teams in Jardim Alegre.[4] He had unsuccessful trials with XV de Outubro and Atlético Ibirama before joining Atlético Tubarão. "When I went to Ibirama a lot of people said I wasn’t good enough," he said. "I had an awful lot of problems to face and I nearly gave up football to go and help my family."[4] During his time with Atlético Tubarão he established himself in the team, having moved into a more advanced position as a striker, and was given a second chance by Atlético Ibirama in 2009.[4] Having scored eight goals in the Santa Catarina state championship, Damião was transferred to Internacional where he won three titles with the club's under-20 side and earned a call-up to the B team.[4] He scored twice in his Campeonato Gaúcho debut and was then called up to the first team for their 2010 Copa Libertadores campaign. Damião won his first major title in August 2010 when he helped Internacional defeat Guadalajara in the Copa Libertadores Finals.[5] He scored the club's second goal in their second leg victory in Porto Alegre to win the competition 5–3 on aggregate.[6]

He was given his first call-up to the Brazil national team in March 2011 for the friendly against Scotland after Alexandre Pato withdrew from the squad due to injury. "I'm taking advantage of the circumstances to summon a player who has been playing well with Internacional and is young enough to play in the Olympics," said head coach Mano Menezes.[7] He won his first cap in the match at the Emirates Stadium in London, which Brazil won 2–0.[8][9] Damião scored his first goal for Brazil in a 1–0 friendly win against Ghana on 5 September at Craven Cottage.[10]
