Seeing that Pacheco's been linked with Real Sociedad, wonder if he could be involved in a cash + player deal, if this interest is indeed genuine.

Liverpool are closing on a £7million deal for Real Sociedad's highly-rated winger Antoine Griezmann as director of football strategy Damien Comolli says the club is ready to finance world class signings in January.

Sportsmail revealed last month that Comolli was keen on Griezmann after trying to sign him for St Etienne.

The 19-year-old was born in France but picked up by Sociedad in 2005 and has shown great promise in La Liga with Manchester United and Arsenal also showing interest.

However, Comolli looks to have beaten them to the punch as he looks to hlp strengthen Liverpool with the investment from New England Sports Ventures.

Comolli said: 'We have identified targets. If there's a possibility of us getting a world-class player, we will have the backing. John (Henry) and Tom (Werner) want to win - and you win with top players.'

Would be dissapointed to see Pacheco go as part of a deal but the fact that we are rumoured to have tied up a deal for an exciting young wide player is positive. Hopefully Comolli will make some smart buys and wrap things up before other teams get to steal a march on us, I would rather him doing the negotiating than Roy anyway

This lad is excellent. And he has got pace!!! Which is something about 95% of our squad doesn't have..

My friend keeps telling me this guy will be a big star one day. He's only 19 and already doing very well in La Liga.

Yes please. £7m sounds like a good price too.

This in a nutshell.

Do you all reckon he'll be as good as our last speedy young winger from La Liga who would be a star, Mark Gonzalez?

This is exactly the type of player Comolli likes. Whether he will become anything close to a world class player is another matter. My worry is that is Comolli has his way, we will become too lightweight and "soft" in the mould of Martin Jol's Tottenham. Lots of young "petite" frenchmen running around with flair and technique... not competing for any trophies.

Excellence is also something 95% of our squad doesn't have ;D

Looking on the bright side, it's evident that our Director of Football Strategy doesn't just base his opinions on YouTube.

Pace and excellency is pretty much something which has been ignored by Liverpool managers for 15 years now. Add goals and you got all three of the less important skills needed in our club.

Instead of a cash+player deal, couldn't we do an unprecedented cash+manager deal ?

hahahahaha

that has GOT to be the worst youtube of a player ever, even the lucas youtube video is more exciting. the editor of that clip is rubbish.

Flair and technique!? I´d much rather have that than what we have today (shit).

We've got some flair & technique in the reserves. Perhaps we should make better use of it

Aquilani had flair and technique in abundance. Still he was not a success here. Or look at Dos Santos at Tottenham (another Comolli signing I think) who can't get a game. The balance of flair and physicality in the Premier League is different from Spain and other leagues, flair alone will not get you very far in this league. That's why I like to look at the total package of skills and attributes in a player to judge whether he has what it takes to succeed here.

So far from what I've seen, Griezmann looks like a younger French version of Marko Marin.

You can say the same about Modric. So, your argumnet is a bit of a moot point. For every "lightweight" player that doesn't make it, there is one that will.

And to be honest, I don't buy the to lightweight argument anymore. If the player has the right mentality being lightweight or not doesn't matter. Aquilani didn't want to get involved in tackles or the physical side of the game, no one ever doubted his skill.

Griezmann would improve us and be an excellent signing for the future. We desperatly need wide players with pace and flair. It's natural that they are smaller and not to physical players. We should have centre backs and central midfielders to deal with that side of the game. It's all about balance.

While on holiday this summer, I caught the end of a europa league match where I was convinced I heard the commentator say we have signed dos santos.

I was actually quite happy about it.

Till I came home and couldn't find anything about it

"I'm only thinking of Real. I'm happy in this team, in this club and in this city and I'm not thinking of leaving, much less in January," he told Marca.

"As well as that, the Spanish league is the best in the world for me and I'm happy to be able to play in it.

"I'm not leaving because I'm happy here and I want to continue at Real."

Griezmann has helped Sociedad make a decent start to the campaign, with the top-flight newcomers sitting in ninth spot having earned 16 points from 11 games.

With a seven-point gap to the relegation zone and just a four-point difference to the top four it could be that Sociedad will now be looking at a possible European challenge rather than just trying to avoid an immediate return to the second division.

On that subject, Griezmann said: "I think that we have both objectives because, if we think we can fight for a European place, I'm sure that we will achieve safety."

Liverpool scouts also watched Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann play for France's U20s against England on Tuesday.
