we should be going for an attacking player of quality. use our transfer kitty for that in jan and then in the summer address the other positions you've listed when better quality will be available.

Ireland's not average at all, so I don't understand the hysteria in this thread. He's not really what we need right now, but he is a talented player and that is a good price, so it wouldn't be entirely incomprehensible if we tried to sign him.
I also think Hodgson would veto him, so this could be another sign that he's gone sooner rather than later.

Ireland's a really good footballer. He's got super ability, and could eaisly play for us.
That said, I don't want him. He's braindead, is a massive tool, and seems to have a far greater opinion of himself than everyone else on this planet.
Plus, we already have half a dozen players capable of doing that 'floaty attacking midfield with no defensive responsibilities type'.
