Liverpool linked with 'unsettled' Real Madrid star

Liverpool are reportedly considering a bid for Real Madrid star Lassana Diarra. The Sunday People claim the former Portsmouth midfielder, who also had brief spells in the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal, is unsettleg in Spain despite being a first team regularly at the Bernabeu, and as a result is keen to return to England. The France international reportedly nearly joined Manchester City prior to leaving for La Liga last January, however persistent reports of Javier Mascherano’s desire to join Barcelona has seen Liverpool become the latest club linked with the 24-year-old.

The report suggests the midfielder would cost in excess of £20 million which would seemingly put Rafa Benitez’s side out of the running given their well publicised financial problems. Should an unlikely deal be struck the tough-tackling midfielder could be in line for his fifth club in three and half years.

Probably bollocks, but i guess we could do a lot worse than this lad when Mascher does leave.

Yep. Good defensive midfielder.

If we lost Masher, this would be acceptable.

A few years back I thought you were quite wrong when you compared to two of them but now I'm not so sure.

Would definitely be a decent replacement should we loose Masher next Summer.

(I'll keep my fingers firmly crossed that won't happen though).

ok if masher goes for 20, we can afford diarra. not sure he is good enough. if only essien is available and willing....

In terms of quality I don't there's any doubt Diarrhoea is up to it - a very good player, not Mascher's equal defensively but as near as we're likely to get, and a lot more productive going forward. The number of clubs he's already left behind might be a concern, but we should certainly consider him if the chance comes along.

He would be one of my top few choices to replace Masch.

I do worry about his attitude though.

good player. did you see the goal where he jinks past about three players to score a spectacular goal?
the question is though, does he have a slender build? 😉

If/when Masch goes, it would be nice if we could sign someone who's more than just a 'midfield destroyer'. I'd like to see a player who can fill that specialist role but also has an eye for a cute pass and doesnt always shoot wide/high over the goal.

Essien 🙁

Why would he be unsettled if he's playing every week?

Diarra would be the obvious replacement for Mascherano - right age, right type of player, great ability. I'm not sure you can blame him completely for the number of clubs he's played for: he was wrongly left out at Chelsea and Arsenal. I bet both those clubs wish they hadn't sold him now. As for moving from Portsmouth to Real Madrid... would *anyone* turn that down?

the guy is always moving clubs, no loyalty or right mentality

You could say that about Anelka and he's doing alright now

Essien ain't going to happen in a million parallel Universes. Disucssed and scoffed at at length.

Hence the sad face.

Maybe he doesn't like the weather and wants to return to England.

Ideal replacement should Masher leave. And to be fair, Madrid is a shithole. I am sure he would jump at the chance to join us.

*whistles and looks to the sky*

Closest I can think of is Javi Martinez.

Exactly. Another thing to bear in mind is that a less specialised DM than Mascher will mean others have to spend more time doing a share of the hard graft in centre midfield. If we end up having to replace Mascher so be it, but don't anybody imagine it'll be a painless process.

So far we've seen Diarra, Veloso and Martinez all mooted as Mascher replacements and none of them come close.

Diarra is more than good enough as Maschers replacement.

I'll go as far as saying he's a better footballer.
Javier is better defensivly, but thats doesn't really.

Diarra has a huge forehead. I don't like looking at it.

lol..call him 'lass'

Don't we need a better defensive player at the moment to help protect the back four a little more?
If we take it that Aqua replaces Xabi, by all accounts Aqua plays further up the field leaving the hole that Xabi would have occupied and helped out the defense by being there.
