Rafa wanted Agger ... I really like Agger but his injury record is horrific. If we can get a good offer, I'd say sell and keep The Greek, with Wilson and Kelly as 'emergency back ups':

Daniel Agger's calf injury may have scuppered his chance of a move to Inter Milan.

Former manager Rafa Benitez was keen on the 25-year-old as a replacement for the injured Walter Samuel.

However, any deal is likely to be shelved as Agger waits to see how his own injury responds to a rest cure.

The Dane saw a specialist last week who discovered calcification of the bone and he could be out three months.

I hope this link is BS as Urby is bloody average:

Ajax winger Urby Emanuelson is being chased by no less than 14 clubs, including Liverpool, Everton and Birmingham City.
The 24-year-old refused to sign a contract extension with the Dutch giants, and the club have confirmed the player will be leaving when his current deal expires next summer.

Last but not least ... Bastian available this summer? We should really make a move for him ... Raul & Bastian in the middle ... Nice one:

Bayern Munich remain hopeful that star midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will turn down the chance to leave the club and sign a new long-term contract.

The 26-year-old Germany international’s current deal runs out at the end of next season and the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly showing an interest.

However, sporting director Christian Nerlinger told the club's official website: “In regard to Bastian, the most important thing for us is that a new contract is signed.

“He has told us that we are his first option. We are not in talks just yet, we are not going to put him under any pressure.â€

Meanwhile, former Bayern ace Michael Ballack, now back in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, has suggested that Schweinsteiger may benefit from a move abroad.

He told Kicker: “He has taken on the responsibility placed in him and is now in a phase when he is looking to reach the zenith of his career.

I like this:

Rumours of a proposed move for Japan international Keisuke Honda are starting to gather pace as reports suggest that our new Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli is also impressed with the versatile stars undoubted talent.

News of the clubs interest will not surprise Kopsource visitors after our January intentions for the player had been reported some months ago.

After starting in his homeland, the playmaker arrived in Europe in January 2008 when he joined Dutch side VVV-Venlo. After relegation in his first season, VVV returned to the top flight in the following season with Keisuke scoring an impressive 16 goals in 36 appearances; being named the division’s player of the year for his efforts.

His first half of this season’s form attracted Russian heavyweights CSKA Moscow, who signed the player for a fee in the region of €6 million. He has continually impressed for his club side as well as starring for the Blue Samurai at the World Cup.

Unsurprisingly it is reported that we would face stiff competition from ageing Italian giants AC Milan who have a number of players coming to the end of their illustrious careers.

The fee reported, believed to be around £9m, would be a snip for a player of his calibre; not to mention the revenue that would be made from shirt sales in the very lucrative Far East market. It has been said that Honda is the number one most recognisable footballer pushing Brand Beckham into number two.

With his ability to play in a number of positions, age, marketing value and not least of all his footballing talent, he would seem to tick all the necessary boxes for Roy Hodgson and his team.

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Valentin Stocker - with a view to making a January bid for the Swiss youngster.

According to German website 4-4-2, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson - who managed the Switzerland national team - is keen to use his contacts in Swiss football to push through a deal for the 21-year-old FC Basel midfielder.

Valentin has caught the eye of a host of European clubs since bursting onto the scene two years ago, and has since gone on to represent his country - scoring three times in just six appearances thus far.

A fleet-footed attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, Valentin would certainly fit with the ethos of new Liverpool owners NESV in their quest to invest in young talent to develop a squad for the future at Anfield.

Liverpool have been linked with January moves for an array of European prodigies, however, Hodgson has thrown a spanner in the works by suggesting there is a possibility that no new recruits will be moving to Anfield in the New Year.

Hodgson is quoted in the Daily Mail saying: "I don’t know what we will be able to do in January,

"We could even find a situation where, because we know it’s a bad market to buy in, the owners would prefer just to see this season out, and we keep trying to do what we are doing, then really make a big effort in the summer.

"We are quite clearly short of the players we need to give us adequate cover in attack.

"That is an area that really needs addressing, but whether it happens in January or the summer remains to be seen."

It had previously been reported that Hodgson would be backed in the transfer market with around £30 million as NESV look to invest in the Liverpool playing squad prior to FIFA's financial fair play rules being introduced next year.

Is this honda chap any good? If we're just after him for shirt sales then he can fuck off.

Honda is an excellent player, his brand power is just an additional benefit.

Bastian is a lovely player who can play anywhere across the midfield. Would be very happy if we signed him.

He is a top player.

There's always been doubts about the ability of Asian players to make it the big leagues because of their height and lack of physicality.

But Honda is a powerful player who has the strength to make it - and expect a lot more stronger Asian players to begin emerging over the next 5-10 seasons.... skill and technique wise, they can match it with the best ... the strength side of things has always been the weakness and has been steadily addressed over the past decade.

I want Michel Bastos for the left not Urby

He's spent his career pinging from average team to average team. We should get involved before Real or whoever snap him up

Im sure Aulas would get a fair wedge out of us for him but he'd go some way to transforming our left sided issues

There's been a good number of Asian players in Europe over the years doing pretty well though.

The Schwein would be a fantastic addition to the first team. He has been a revelation since he moved into the middle for club and country. We would have stiff competition for him though.

It's a pipe dream, there are about ten clubs he would go to instead of us.
I would love him at LFC though

Couldn't swear to it but I think Mr.Pigclimber actually started as a CM, so it's something of a "return home" for him.

I don't agree with Asim that we'd be that much off the pace if we tried to get him. There are clubs around who are doing better than we are for the moment, but he may or may not get regular first team football with them, our reputation is still (perhaps surprisingly) high out there and he might just fancy being part of a Liverpool revival.

Last but not least, I hope we don't keep calling him "Schwein" if the club does sign him. ;D

I'm assuming you're talking about Bastos having gone from average team to average team, even though it makes your post a little weird?

Either way, I don't think Bastos is worth what we'd have to pay to get him.

And there is no chance we'll get Schweinsteiger.

Pigfucker would be an awesome addition ot our midfield.

Honda's apparently a fan. he's younger than I thought... attacking midfielder... if he's available at a decent price... then why niot?

I've already ordered a 'Schwein' jersey for next Season so he'll better come.

He's good. Strength, technique, vision, and a crazy C.Ronaldo-like free kick.
But he's not very quick and as much as he's a star player in Japan, we could do better than him if we've got the transfer fee available.

Shinji Kagawa on the other hand is a seriously talented attacking player. Just moved to Borussia Dortmund from Japan this season. So far scored 5 in 10 games I think. Very quick, very tricky, eye for goal and some great passing in the final third. A quick version of Garcia, in a way.

Who do you reckon would be better options for £9m?

I disagree. I still believe that should Agger put his injury problems behind him he can be a world class CB. He can tackle, play the ball, score standard goals, score unbelievable goals.. and is still young. More patience my prettys..

Plus, Bastos went to Lyon for 18million or so. People mention Bastos and probably think we'll snap him up for 8million or so.

I absolutely love the way Agger plays the game.

The composure he shows is unreal. He has got a bit of a swagger, and he is a confident lad although injury setback after setback is slowly eroding that.

All said, i wouldn't bat an eyelid if he was sold for anything more than 10 million gbp.

*I hate you a little now for making me spit me coffee because of a joke on behalf of Agger...

We all want(ed) Agger to be the next Jocky Hansen. There were superficial similarities to how they play: astonishing composure; "cultured"; great passing; unflappable; superb technique; effortlessly taking the ball out of defence; shit in the air; poor tackler.

And it's understandable, Jocky's probably my all-time favourite player. But it's never going to happen. Why?

1) Agger isn't anyhwere near as good
2) Agger's broken.
3) We don't have a Mark Lawrenson to play next to Agger.

So the *idea* is nice. But it's not ever going to happen.

If we're talking about Japanese players (and we're probably not), then the player I mentioned, Kagawa would be a very exciting player to have.

Players from around the globe, then lord knows (and our scouts are hopeless), but I can guarantee Honda won't be a signing that will set the world alight. He'll do a good job generally and score some cracking free kicks but that's about it.

I'd be quite happy with someone that generally did a good job and could score some free kicks to be honest. We don't have many of those...

If we get an offer greater than 10m pounds for Agger, we should sell. He'll never get past his injury problems, and we can move martin kelly over or spend the 10m + more on a new CB. Really quite fed up with the amount of time Agger spends on the sidelines. Not his fault, but a CB is pretty useless when he can only play 15-20 games a year.

He plays an advanced midfield role. Gerrard's way better.
He can also play on the left. We're desperate for quick, skillful wingers aren't we?
