Liverpool FC has become the first major football club to use Edit.tv’s new sports video platform, which allows viewers to search, edit and tag content.
Backed by 17 patents, the service is marketed by Press Association Sport, which has also become an official partner of the Liverpool-based company.
Supporters can use the technology for free at the moment, to create their own personalised match highlights packages.
“We are delighted to have signed a contract with Liverpool FC for the 2011/12 season following a successful trialling of our technology,†said Matt O’Connor, one of Edit.TV’s directors.
“Liverpool fans will be the first in the UK to be able to take advantage of the service which we believe will transform the way they are able to watch their team. They will be able to find the specific action footage they want, such as a Gerrard free kick or Reina save, at the touch of a button.â€
The company is also looking at non-sporting applications for the technology, such as news and said that more announcements are expected in the New Year.
“We are excited at the prospect of our LFCTV Online subscribers being able to search within and across matches to collate playlists and share with their friends,†added Andrew Robinson, head of digital media for Liverpool Football Club.
“YourSportTV will increase the enjoyment of our fans through its ability to offer a more detailed, analytical, user-driven engagement of match content across domestic and European matches.â€
