Liverpool defender Martin Kelly set to miss rest of season after aggravating hamstring injury

By Sportsmail Reporter

Liverpool's 20-year-old right back Martin Kelly is unlikely to play again this season after suffering a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for a month.

Terrible news. Might open a slot for Flanagan or Robinson though if they're ready/good enough.

Chasing 5th place, no chance. We've got Johnson on the right, Agger or Wilson will be playing on the left. Hopefully the latter cause I want Agger in the middle.

I agree the chances are slim, but I really don't wish to see Wilson on the left (think Carra on the right, with less steel and experience, on the evidence so far). And shifting either Carra or Agger to the right or left shouldn't be the solution as it just disrupts our strongest CB combo (until Agger sprains his eyebrow again at least).

Kenny suggested in a recent interview that Flanagan was almost ready, so I'm hopeful he'll get a crack against WBA this weekend.

Hope not. He´s been really shit and he would probably be better off if he stepped back from the scene now and came back stronger next season.

Barring injury it'll be

Carra--Skrtel--Agger--Johnson

for the rest of the season. And rightly so, regardless of peoples reservations about Carra at fullback, it's our best 'available' back four.

Putting Agger or Wilson at left back just weakens the defence.

Can't argue with that. Agger has been very good as a centre back and should not be pushed out left.
Johnson is acutally better on the left than on the right for us, strangely enough.

Yeah I agree, Agger has been great of late, while Johnson has barely put a foot wrong at left back.

could be a blessing in disguise ... gives him a good summer break to prep himself for a full season, and keeps him away from the u21 tourney.

Long injuries at this point of a career(or ever) are pretty much never a blessing in any way.

Worrying news indeed, fingers crossed he doesn't become another perma crock full back for us.

I think he missed a season a few years back in the reserves as well.

Hopefully he'll grow out of these injuries, but it's not looking good I suppose.

I'd like them to give Wisdom a go.

He could play right fullback. He's big, strong, mobile, decent on the ball and would benefit from having Carra next to him talking him through the game. Simples.

Haha, but none of our players will ever get injured again!

I doubt it. Has he even been on the bench yet?
[/quote]

For 3 Europa League games (Bucuresti and 2x Braga).

Ooh... Aurelio. Totally forgot about him - it's hard to remember him when he's out so often. Supposedly out for a month with a hamstring tear but given his fragile state, I won't be surprised if he's slow to recover and that the Manc game was his last in a red shirt.

Gerrard went through the same shit when he was that age. Gowing pains/Development/Whatever - hopefully it's just that.

Dalglish may call on talented teenagers Jack Robinson and John Flanagan to bolster his back line, after the duo were left out of the reserve team for last night’s game against Aston Villa and are expected to train with the first team squad this week.
