Liverpool are considering a move for Greek international right-back Vasilis Torosidis as a replacement for crocked Glen Johnson.

England full-back Johnson, 25, faces three months out after tearing medial ligaments in Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Aston Villa.

And Reds boss Rafa Benitez is now deciding whether to bring in a cheap replacement.

Olympiakos Torosidis, 24, fits the bill as he has 25 caps for his country.

He is available for a knock-down fee and already has Juventus clamouring for his services.

Don't see it myself considering we have a decent backups in Degen / Kelly / Darby.

That would be kelly although his natural position is centre back. Had a good debut pity about the injury.

Whats the point of signing a replacement for a player that will miss 4 games?

Kelly is the best option.

Perhaps Johnson's better option playing further forward

They say Johnson might be out for 3 months. And whatever you think about his injury, bear in mind that our medical team consists of the crack duo we brought from Newcastle just in time to oversee an awful injury run.

Total bollocks

We have Degen, Darby, Kelly, Carra and, at a push Mascher as cover.

I would like to see Kelly emerge as our wonderful, overlapping right back with Johnson playing right wing. I don't understand how someone so good in attack became a full back.

so good in attack and so obviously poor at the back...

Ah jaysus, sign a decent striker and a winger will you first. Enough of the deadbeat signings Rafa.

Johnson was playing right mid for Pompey - I'd much rather see him there for us instead of Dirk.

That's way too sweeping a judgment about his defensive capabilities (which are good enough for Capello to pick him). The guy has had an iffy three or four games, period. Too many good posters like you are jumping on this particular media bandwagon.

Johnson is a decent defender. You simply won't get a full back who is amazing going forward and amazing at the back and so some people will always complain that they are too defensive or too attacking!

I remember Ashley Cole used to get criticised for not being defensive enough too. Not so much these days tho.

As for buying a replacement, I hope we don't. Aren't we supposed to be skint? Shouldn't the money be spent elsewhere?

That's what I was suggesting, in a roundabout sort of way, but we could have done that with Kelly.
Still Dirk is an untouchable so it won't happen

Hasn't Rafa been grooming Kuyt for an attacking RB role for years?

I semi-facetiously suggested this over a year ago.
