From BBC: Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier claims that Liverpool have made an approach for the French side's coach Didier Deschamps. However, Dassier told Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow that there is "no hope in hell" of persuading the 41-year-old, who guided his beloved Marseille to their first league title in 18 years last season, to move to Anfield.

Deschamps is the somewhat logical choice after he's managed to end Marseilles baring spell in Ligue 1 after almost 20-years winning the trophy this Season. Very much an identical job to what lies ahead for a new manager at Anfield.

I'd be delighted with Deschamps.

Didn't Deschamps leave two of his previous clubs for not seeing eye to eye with the powers that be? Hmmm.....so where does that leave all the conspiracy theorist tosspots who are convinced our owners are appointing a yes man who will stand aside and let them asset strip us?

Awaits Oh no, it's all a smokescreen. They don't want Deschamps really, just phoned Monaco to make it look like we're considering more than just Roy.

I'm here.

But it's not a conspiracy theory. RBS will just happily sell our players to get their money back, obviously they don't give a flying fuck about our club, and the only reason Broughton was appointed was because the Americans can't pay their money back.

Liverpool are targeting Marseille boss Didier Deschamps to take over the Anfield hotseat.

The Reds approached Marseille earlier this week about talking to the 41-year-old, who guided the club to their first Ligue 1 title in 18 years last season.

While the French outfit would not stop their manager from talking to the English giants, president Jean-Claude Dassier insists the Reds have 'no chance' of landing their man.

He told L'Equipe: "It's true, Liverpool'sexecutive director, Christian Purslow, called me Thursday morning. He speaks French very well, is very polite.

"I was expecting his call because I had heard of Liverpool's interest in Didier. He asked me if I would allow him to meet Didier and (agent) Jean-Pierre Bernes. "I replied that I would never forbid anyone from meeting whoever. I also kindly indicated to him that there wasn't the slightest chance for him to pinch our coach. Even in his dreams."

Deschamps' contract runs out at the end of next season and he is yet to pen an extension, but Dassier is confident of keeping the former Marseille midfielder.

He added: "With Didier, we have a trusting relationship. I hope he will commit himself to us for another year. I'm not worried. It's true also that Didier is flattered to see a great European club interested in him."

France's World Cup and European Championship winning captain is regarded as one of Europe's best young managers and has made an impressive start to his coaching career since taking over the reins at Monaco in 2001.

He steered the principality side to the Coupe de la Ligue title just two years after taking his first managerial post and led them to the UEFA Champions League final the following season

He then helped Juventus to the Serie B title in his one season at the Bianconeri before taking charge at Marseille last summer and leading them to the Ligue 1 title.

Speculation has been rife over who will take charge at Anfield since Rafa Benitez left the club at the beginning of the month, with Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson previously thought to be among the frontrunners.

I think Keni said if we can't get the very best managers, it's a decent option to look for the next young and up and coming ones.

Deschamps certainly fulfils that category and has good experience and success already.

I'd be pleased if we got him. It seems unlikely though, with Marseille being in the CL and us not. We are and always will be a bigger club, but whether we can attract someone as ambitious as Deschamps in our current unstable state, I'm not so sure.

He did join a disgraced Juventus in Serie B a few years back, although I suppose he was a little more in need of a break back then.

I think we all know we're getting Hodgson anyways, so it's a futile debate. I would like to know more about this sexecutive though.

Speaking to French publication La Provence, World Cup winner Deschamp himself has now rejected any chance of him joining Liverpool.

He said, “I am happy at Marseille. I am not there for just one year. A coach must be there for the long haul, and that is my wish.â€

Deschamps added that “we are in discussions†about a contract extension with the French club.
