New Director of Football Strategy at Liverpool Damien Comolli is reportedly set on bringing FC Cluj striker Lacina Traore to the club.

The 20-year old, 6’8†striker, who hails from the Ivory Coast has been linked with Arsenal in the past, but Arsene Wenger’s interest is said to have waned since the Gunners signed Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux in the summer.

Traore has been referred to as the ‘new Emmanuel Adebayor’ in his homeland and has also attracted the interest of Bayern Munich, who are in the same Champions League group as the Romanian side.

In the aftermath of Cluj’s 4-0 defeat to Bayern in the Champions League, club President Iuliu Muresan said: “I spoke with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who is following two of our players. And Traore is one of them.â€

His agent, Thomas Boehm, meanwhile, told Sport.co.uk in the summer: “There is interest but at the moment he is with CFR Cluj. We have a close relationship with the management at Cluj and we will talk to them about his future. There is nothing serious at the moment.

“There is a lot of talk with Lacina (Traore). We have had talks and spoken to different teams, but not just in the United Kingdom, but Italy, Germany and Holland. At the moment it is quiet but there could be movement in the next week. At the moment there is nothing concrete.â€

The fact that Traore has yet to be capped for the Ivory Coast may prove to be a stumbling block in any deal with Liverpool, as he may not be eligible to secure a work permit in the United Kingdom.

I hate the "new" anyone. There was Salif "the new Vieira" Diao, Ryan "the new Henry" Babel and fucking Bruno "Zidane" Cheyrou. Plus Adebayor is not even that good. Also, this cunt is 20 and hasn't even played for his country.

Ivory Coast has some decent attackers, though.

He is only 20.

Saw this lad play recently in some game on ESPN. He looked quite impressive actually.

You'll never know!

This lad is ment to be pretty good actutally. Hasn't scored enough goals though, but he's only 20. Will be picked up by a big European club quite soon.

If we buy him, he'll be crap. If another team gets him, he has a shot of being good and we'll all look back on him as another that got away.

...and his name is Traore.

TRAORE!!!

I wouldn't put to much into this.

Romanian football are in total decline as all the big clubs wealthy owners more or less has gone bankrupt over the past years so every player with half a talent is now looking to be sold.

That means agents galore are touting their players around trying to big them up. Not saying there isn't a few good players or perhaps more that that, just that we should be aware of the current envinronment in Romanian football.

Fulham boss Mark Hughes is ready to win the £3million race for giant Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traore - who has stood out in the Champions League for Romanian side Cluj.

The towering target man is due to fly to London for a medical ahead of a move in the New Year window, with Cluj sources revealing a fee has been agreed.

Traore - also watched by Aston Villa in their midweek defeat by Basel - is just 20 and stands a stunning 6ft 8in tall. His awkward style has caught the attention of many top clubs.

However ambitious Fulham have been in talks with Cluj, whose Champions League campaign is about to end, and they are willing to do a deal.

Hughes is looking for more variety in his attack and Traore may turn out to be a bargain if he pushes the deal through quickly and gets the chance to throw him into Premier League action.

My point exactly, fucking hate the "New" someone philosophy. Stop bringing back GH teaching even though he is back in BPL.

It is marketing, not philosophy.

It's Agent speak, which will no doubt rub off on some people in the game and lazy, boring journalists, too.

I was quite impressed with that video of his. Judging from that alone he screams potential and £3M would seem to represent extremely good value for money for a side like Fulham.

The goals at 6:20 and 7:50 are very good. Its a nice little highlight reel, seems to have the tools to make it, wouldn't mind the purchase but undoubtedly there are better players in more pressing urges, LW!

Im getting seriously worried about Comolli's targets, he should realize hes now working for LFC not St Etienne anymore.
That Traore was fairly anonymous against Basle the other night...

Statistically, most Traores have been shit.

For all the rumours that went on, he'd now moved to Russian side Kuban Krasnodar for €4 million. :-X
