Allen : Southampton and Leicester City are interested in signing Joe Allen. (lfc.pl)
Liverpool have rejected an £8m bid from Swansea for midfielder Joe Allen (Mirror)

The Reds will step up their efforts to sign Southampton's Senegal forward Sadio Mane, 24, in a £30m deal next week. (Telegraph) (See also Echo 'Pros & Cons' on Mane in the SM thread)

Liverpool are set to open the 2016-17 Premier League campaign with three successive away matches. Burnley have agreed to the Reds’ written request to switch their clash on August 20 from Anfield to Turf Moor. Liverpool are now waiting for the Premier League to ratify the change before being able to confirm the alteration to their fixtures.
The switch with Burnley means that Liverpool will now entertain the Clarets on March 11. Everton play West Brom at Goodison that weekend so one of the Merseyside clubs will have to play on the Friday night or the Sunday.

Liverpool's search for a left-back goes on after Leicester turned down the Reds' £7m offer for Ben Chilwell's services. The Premier League champions want £10m for the 19-year-old, so it was inevitable that today's rumour mill would like the Reds with an alternative.
That man is Douglas Santos, a once-capped Brazilian who players for Athletic Mineiro in his homeland. Santos is said to have a £7.7m release clause in his contract and Brazilian newspaper Globo Esport reckons the Reds are keen to match it.
One man we do know is an alternative is Hull's left-back Andrew Robertson . The Scottish international is highly-rated by the Reds and has emerged as a realistic option.

Mane = Allen + 20 million.
£5m is in add-ons though so he / we would have to hit performance targets, which if he/we did would presumably make it worthwhile. Not that I am arsed one way or the other. We need pace and a better spread of goals and I don't care where it comes from so long as it works out.

With the £ dropping faster than Eddie The Eagle we should only buy domestically based players.

This Mané deal for one is starting to look more and more attractive - mainly thanks to all the old farts who voted GB out of Europe last night.

I'm getting really tired of the Echo's recent holier than thou attitude about 'the rumour mill'. If its own standard of reporting hadn't declined so much, it could lead the news rather than keep sneering about other papers' speculation. It's about time it remembered that it's supposed to be a newspaper, not a snooty review of other newspapers. James Pearce must be the most ineffectual LFC correspondent for decades. Reade, Bascombe (for all his flaws), Barrett, King - they actually reported, they dug out stories. Pearce is like human carbon paper: he types what the club types for him. He's a bloody joke.

And ... it's Lil' Luis' birthday today !

Happy Birthday Luis .. thanks for the great memories.

If Liverpool want Hull City left back Andy Robertson, they'll have to pay at least £12m for his services (Mirror)

Reports in France have linked the Reds with a move for Lyon wonderkid Houssem Aouar.
The 17-year-old midfielder is highly thought of at the Ligue 1 club and, according to Footmercato.com, that has alerted both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Liverpool could reportedly reignite their pursuit of Neven Subotic. Jurgen Klopp worked with the 27-year-old defender during his time at Dortmund (Star)
