Who was I arguing with about this lad a week ago?

Naturally, I wasn't the one who thought he "could still come good for us".

well he's moving because of work permit problems isn't he?

Yes, that's the only thing stopping Rafa from keeping Sebastien Leto: the department of Immigration.

If only they'd done a better job of stopping Rafa from getting him in the first place.

We made a profit out of this guy right?

Nobody stands in Rafa's way when it comes to signing rubbish, not even the Department of Immigration. They tried their best to stop him signing Gonzalez.

Pounds or euros? Either way, it's more than I thought we'd get for him. But if it's euros, it hardly constitutes a profit: we paid £2m for him in the first place.

Heh. Funny (& sad) cos it's true.

What was the quote from Benitez .... ?

It something along the lines of "Only someone who knows nothing about football could tell me Gonzalez isn't good enough for the Premiership"

I read on RAWK that we are selling 50% of his economic rights to PAO for 4m euros. Is this sort of part ownership allowed in the EPL?

I hope we get his left leg - his right's fucking useless.

We made a profit on him though - so not the end of the world.

ha.

I reallyt don't know about Leto. It looks like he's beeing doing ok in Greece the past Season and maybe he's actually done enough to at least get another chance (could he get his work permit in order of course).

I watched him a few times last Season (as his team played a Danish one in the UEFA Cup) and I must say he looked faster and more physical adjust than I remembered him.

He could of course still be nowhere near good enough.

According to a Greek poster on RAWK:

+excellent dribbling
+good pace
+decent crossing/shooting

-extremely inconsistent, from world beater to invisible
-poor goalscoring record
-selfish, plays just to please the crowd, spats with the manager

It doesn't sound like much has changed since he left the reserves. I always said on here that he still plays as though he was on the playground.

So does Ronaldo. He just does it to a much higher standard.

Andy Hunter guardian.co.uk said:
Liverpool have accepted a £3m offer from Panathinaikos for the Argentinian winger Sebastián Leto as Rafael Benítez trims the excess from his squad to increase his transfer budget.

Leto has made only four starts for Liverpool since arriving for £1.85m from Lanús two years ago and spent last season on loan at Olympiakos, where the 22-year-old fell out with the coach Erneste Valverde. Despite his initial problems Leto hopes to remain in Greece but due to the absence of a permanent offer from Olympiakos, is close to joining their fierce rivals. With Alvaro Arbeloa also close to a £5m move to Real Madrid, Benítez's prospects of following the £17m purchase of Glen Johnson with another big-money signing have increased. Valencia's David Silva remains a leading target.

"There are negotiations between Panathinaikos and Liverpool and as far as I know the two sides are very close to a deal," said Leto. "I think that the possibilities of playing at Panathinaikos next season are more than 90 per cent. I have been waiting for something from Olympiakos all these weeks but they haven't made a move for me so far. It's not a matter of money. I wanted to stay at Olympiakos but since they don't want to sign me I have to think about my future.
