Yup. Took a terrible penalty but it didn't matter. He had a fantastic ability to wait until the keeper went the wrong way, and if they didn't he'd put it where they couldn't save it anyway.

I remember a couple of times with Murphy (against Barthez being one instance) where the keeper knew exactly where he was putting it, but like you say, he placed it in an unsaveable spot. Good ol' Spud.

Might have counted that wrong. A couple of them at least, though, he put in the rebound.

Those figures aren't a surprise. I can certainly remember Stevie not being the most reliable of penalty takers to begin with. It's one aspect of his game that he's improved big time in recent years.

I mentioned Steve Peters as a possible influence on Steven. As you say, he went through a few nervy periods in the past but he looks as if he relishes the job these days.

Owen as his record says was awful, used to hate him being the penalty taker, a lot of them were such feeble efforts.

Yeah my bluenose mate was a regular Unsworth first goalscorer backer, won a few quid over the years!
