Don't know if its just me but i am a fan of his.

Young, English, Good Potential (better then Lucarse?)

Probably going to get told I'm an idiot but i would sign him as a squad player ???

It doesn't look like Lucas is being sold so there's little point discussing potential replacements.

As for Cattermole, I quite liked him in his Boro days in a fiery, 'I'm young and I'm going to kick you' kinda way. But I know little about him as an actual footballer and haven't seen him much for Wigan.

Yeh i know, for some reason Rafa ikes him.

I just bin watchin Cattermole in the England U21's and he looks a decent footballer

Yeah he looks not too bad but I'd much rather Noble as a replacement for Lucas, he's a class act

agreed noble is good - i can seem him following the lampard career path.

He sounds like a children's super hero. Part cat, part mole. Useless.

Liverpool lurk as Sunderland's Cattermole bid fails

By Sam Wallace

Saturday, 11 July 2009

Sunderland have had a bid for the Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole rejected but the player is attracting interest from higher up the Premier League and there could be yet more pressure to sell.

Liverpool are understood to have considered a move for Cattermole in the event of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano leaving, a prospect that looks less likely after Rafael Benitez took a defiant stance about their contracts on Thursday.

However, Cattermole, who looked effective for the England Under-21s in last month's European championships where Stuart Pearce's side reached the final before losing to Germany, is attracting a lot of interest.

The former Middlesbrough midfielder was the subject of a bid, thought to be of around £8m, from Bruce, who brought him to Wigan last summer. Cattermole is relatively experienced in the Premier League for a 21-year-old and his English nationality puts a premium on him with the prospect of the "4+4" quotas the Premier League is considering introducing.

Bruce, who is close to a deal for Fraizer Campbell of Manchester United, has also lodged a firm interest in the Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch, valued at around £15m by his club. He is waiting to hear from the player who has also had interest from Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. The willingness of Sunderland to pay higher wages is making them significant players in the transfer market.

On Cattermole, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said: "Lee is not for sale. End of story. He is a fantastic player, a leader on and off the field, and is central to our plans going forwards. We are not interested in selling him, which was why this offer was rejected immediately.

"It is not usually our style to discuss incoming or outgoing transfers until they are completed, but we have made an exception in this case because I feel so strongly about keeping Lee, along with all my best players. He is one of many talented players. Let's forget about this now and move on."

This has to be speculative bullshit. Fuck me I'd rather play Spearing.

I remember someone else started a thread about him recently and I said I likec him in a 'run around and kick people' kinda way, but I thought Wigan was, for now, about he's level. I stand by that, because I've seen nothing to suggest he has the quality to replace either Xabi or Mascherano

Fuck off. Spearing zero prem minutes vs Catamole loads of prem minutes proven prem mid fielder (plus where is Spearing in any under 21 side). Sorry but I know who I'd have as emergency back up mid field.

Squiggles - twas I that said I liked him when discussing options for the January window:

http://sixcrazyminutes.com/forums/index.php?topic=29039.0

Probably not an option for January but I quite like the look of Lee Catermole as a good option for our midfield for when we don't need a DM and we probably sell Lucas. He would get at least (with sub apprearances) 30 games a year and would probably jump at a chance to join LFC even though he would have less opportunities than at Wigan.

I like Lee Catermole - quality player in my book and still learning. He would be a great back-up to / for Gerrard, when SG is injured / needing a rest or being subbed. I think he'd get plenty of other games too. When SG is out we really don't have any other player that can offer anything similar (even though on a lower level of course) and our style of play changes. We have recently seen what happens when SG and xabi are missing. We're flat.

I don't know why Middlesbro sold him (for 3.5M) but at 20 yrs old and with 7 appearances for England's U21's I think this kid has a bright future. For us he would offer a lot of what we saw was lacking against Fulham; energy, aggression, creativity and the lad gets himself into the box and can shoot too. We can't / won't have a team full of Galacticos so a few of these types of players, EPL savvy and with bags of talent, would make a far better bench than we saw at the weekend. And as I've said already he would get 30+ games a season at least.

Christ 15M ?!? No not at all - but that's probably a much inflated figure anyway. Under 10M OK. He sounds like a young SG. I like this bit :

"Even if I'm not captain I'm exactly the same," he says. "I always give my all and I don't like losing. In fact, I hate losing. You've got to play with passion and spirit and I will always roll up my sleeves and give it a good go. Where it comes from, I just don't know. But it's there all the time, in every match."

We could do with more of that sometimes.

Almost everyone shot me down. Ryan's below but I think only Brendan had a good word to say about him

This is quite easily the most absurd transfer suggestion I have ever seen on a Liverpool forum. 10M for Lee Cattermole? I've said that sentence out loud about half a dozen times in the hope that some of it might sink in. But no.

I still like him as 4th behind SG, Xabi & Masher.

However that said I also think Spearing has a lot going for him too and I'd like to see him given more playing time even if it's only coming on for 20 minutes here and there. He is aggressive, picks a great pass and is always looking to go forward.

Dear god i hope not. I'd have him ahead of lucas, but not as a replacement for xabi or masch.

We have to face up to the fact - 'coz it IS a fact - that either Masher or Xabi will be massively hard to replace. If equivalent players even exist, they're going to be prohibitively priced, unwilling to move, or both. Any replacements will be of lesser quality almost by definition and will involve upheaval throughout our set-up, as other players - notably Stevie - have to change their game to help fill the gaps.

With that in mind, I wouldn't be against signing Cattermole for the right fee. I think he's good enough to be at least a squaddie for us and has the potential to become better still.

Good little player, if a little unfashionable with the big club gloryhunters. We want players with exotic names...damn you!!

Yeah- when I pay for my giant foam hand and jester hat, I expect to be entertained by someone whose name ends in -ez, or perhaps -ic.

Good point. But if we lose quality in the form of Masher or Xabi, then we will have to replace them with similar or better quality in the starting eleven. It doesn't have to be like for like. If we lose Masher and sign a brilliant left winger with the fee difference, then Catermole could be the Darren Fletcher for us.

Now that makes sense.

You're on the wrong forum. Please leave.

Arsenal and Liverpool are both keeping close tabs on Lee Cattermole's situation, skysports.com understands.

The Wigan midfielder had an outstanding maiden campaign at the DW Stadium following his arrival from hometown club Middlesbrough last season.

Cattermole also shone whilst on international duty with Stuart Pearce's U21s over the summer as he helped England to the final of the European Championship.

Now his former boss Steve Bruce, who moved to Sunderland earlier in the summer, is desperate to sign him again.

Having lodged two bids for Cattermole already this summer and had them rejected, Sunderland are reportedly ready to test Wigan's resolve with a £10million offer.

Wigan supremo Dave Whelan has been quick to dismiss Sunderland's interest in the player - but propositions from two of the top-four could be a different matter.

Manchester United prised Antonio Valencia from Wigan earlier this year, and now they could face a similar battle to try and keep Cattermole - should either or both Arsenal and Liverpool make concrete offers.

One snag for either Arsenal or Liverpool could be that they are unlikely to want to go as high as £10million, which Sunderland are ready offer.

Whelan's said today that Cattermole's not going anywhere, which suggests it'll take even more than £10 mill.to prise him away from Wigan. At that price, no thanks.
