Was impressed with him during the friendly game – fortunately the reliably amazing MrBoywunder just made a video of his individual highlights from this game. Apparently Klopp had some interest in him and we scouted Empoli games as much for Zielinski as for this guy, but now Roma took him back from the loan and it's conflicting reports on whether they want to build a team around him or sell. At least Roma fans appreciate his potential – a real Alonso-esque player, a rarity in the modern game.

Just to pre-empt @Judge Jules, he is NOT Italian. 🙂

I said earlier in the summer that Paredes looked a lot more interesting than Zielinski.

Tribalfootball's (I know...) Giulianelli "reports" that we made an official bid for Paredes today:

Liverpool have offered €18 million to Roma for their talented Argentinian midfielder Leandro Paredes.
Roma refused, but the impression is that, if they raise the offer to €20-22 million the deal could be sealed.
And, at that point, Roma will go in for Borja Valero, of Fiorentina.

He can take a freekick alright, but he'll never get time to prance around like that in the Premier League. He plays like that kid at school who was better than anyone else but would never release it.

How exactly is he "prancing around"? I'm not trying to argue, just curious what you meant. I thought he had to ride quite a few physical challenges in those videos. He also looked pretty good against Klopp's gegenpressing in the pre-season game.

If we sign this kid, then we might not sign Dahoud at all. Who would I prefer between the the two of them? No idea; that Roma pre-season game was the first full game I saw from Paredes. Clearly he is more of a holding mid type, rather than a "roaming" type like Dahoud. Both are really good passers of the ball and can shoot well from long distance.

(Warning: Dahoud's video is rather boring. Not his best performance by any stretch, but I just wanted to show them both against the same team)

He over plays it a large amount of times in the second compilation both in attacking and defensive areas and gets caught out. The effects of doing so would be twice as bad here.

"He is not considered a first-team option at this stage"

Repeat: Sign a fucking left back.
Oh like Chilwell would have been?
Smith went for 6mill and was hardly first team and we baulked at paying not much more than that for Chilwell.
And yet half the board were happy with him as a "left back" signing.
Point is, I think Klopp is happy with back up for Moreno. So we may get a LB, but it may just be this kinda kid.
