Leaders - New and Old

Insignificance

Bad to the bone

It has been a discussion point that our team lack leaders, and couple of games lately (Burnley and Leicester especially) has proven this.

It seem like majority of the players linked to us are Young, exciting and good prospects. Some of them have certain experience, and some of them even come with a high pricetag. It is also based on previous transfer strategy from Klopp that he often bring in these prospects and turn them into good solid material.
If this is what to expect this summer also, our Squad will have plenty of potential but will lack those guys cutting the edge. Players that will go out and win a war against Burnley, or shoot us through when we struggle in the FA Cup. We will have enough talent that will show up when we click as a team and find the rythm, but not the kind of talent that turn games for us on regular basis.
If we don't adress this and bring in some real leaders in the team we will be stuck with this Central line of potential leaders.

Ming or Karius: We really need someone to nail down the number one spot without all the doubts that has surronded these two. Goalie is very big part of the Central line!
Lovren and Matip: Can be commanding on their day. Matip is still New and should have learned the PL by summer, and hence improve the overall defence. Lovren has his up and downs. Been here too long to say his inconsitency is just temporary.
Milner: The Perfect pro and a good example for young guys. But as a left back you can't dictate the game.
Hendo: Too incosistent and also a potential absent for periods due to hsi injury.
Can and Gini: I think they both are too "junior" in the way they play. Both can have good games and also win us games, but they don't get the team together around them to sort it out if we are in trouble.
Lallana: Experienced and good, but I don't see him as a leader. More as a good player that Plays his own game.
Coutinho: Potential a leader, but he will not carry the team when we are murdered by releagtion fodder.
Firmino and Mane: Potential leaders both of them, but a little more two players that will be icing on the cake instead of the fundation we need for success.
Lucas: Only real leader we have. Got 5 managers sacked already and still search for the Perfect Liverpool formation ;-)

So if we just spread another round of make or brake players onto that team, are we really giving them a chance of success? I see all the fance names with good statistics and a few tricks in their sleeves, but will they really win us the title?

The squad lacks guts. You're interpreting that as the lack of leadership in the team. But that is like one of those nice stories to tell yourself to feel better and be more hopeful about the future. The reality is that all of those players are psychologically weak and afraid, and they are that way for a reason. Getting them to follow the example of a "leader" will get them all killed.

And yet, we've come back to win from losing situations more than anyone else in the league this season.

You interpreting that as guts is a similarly nice story. The reality is simply we concede so many goals, it means we have that many more opportunities to come back from a goal down.
