He has started to become more effusive about us in his old age. He's a terrible pundit though.

He's a genuinely passionate Prestonian. A great big tunnel-vision obsessive Preston supporter. That's simply the truth. He loves LFC as well, but that's less pronounced, and he's been crap over the years at making it clear. Now that the BBC don't use him as much he's being hired by LFCTV on a regular basis, so his allegiance is a bit more obvious, but it probably still comes as a shock to many.
 
For some dreadful reason that I don't want to go into I had a round of golf with him about ten years ago... and while I was worried about how that would go initially, he was ace company and dead honest about all kinds of stuff.

Yes, his first love is Preston. Yes, he looks back on his time at Liverpool with great fondness but wouldn't call himself a fan - and when I asked if he could have a season ticket anywhere in the country where would it be, he said Fulham... just coz he likes the ground and the pubs round there.

More Lawro facts - his favourite thing he ever did was play Augusta and beat Gary Lineker. His best friend is Ray Stubbs. Alan Shearer is scared of flying, so the BBC had this van fitted out for him with a bed and would pick him up and drive him home each way from Newcastle to London and back every Saturday. When they did Match of the Day they had to get in at 9 in the morning and stay there til they broadcast the thing at half ten that night. They couldn't go out at all and the canteen was crap so they lived on crisps and mars bars out of the machine. He's one of the rare people that swears as much as me
