Don't see a thread on this. Maybe there was one and it quickly sunk under a wave of apathy, but I think its been pretty decent quality. The quarter finals were exciting, and, in the case of USA v Brazil, good quality. What a cross by Rapinoe, and great focus by Wambach to head in the equaliser on 122 minutes (after some shameful time-wasting by the Brazilians). The keeper also made two fantastic penalty saves (one in normal time which was negated by silly refereeing). Japan played very well defensively against the host and 2-time champions Germany, and caught them with a sucker punch.
England did what Engand do, went down bravely with missed penalties and lots of room for regret, but the French played well and probably deserved it.
So that leaves Sweden v Japan on Tuesday and USA v France on Wednesday. Probably a Sweden v US final is favourite and Sweden won that game 2-1 in the group stages. I'm hoping USA can win it, but would also be very pleased to see the Japanese ladies take the trophy.

Don't care to be honest. Even if Sweden is in the semi's.

Horrible football, just horrible.

'Oh why doesn't it get the same coverage?'
'Why are we not being broadcast on TV?'
'Women's football deserves the same respect/publicity/treatment as mens'

I'll tell you why no one gives a fuck womens; cos the football is absolutely shite. Out right putrid guff. That's why no one watches you, not cos you're femalers.

A kiss for all the haters:

1 in 120 participants, wow. And she's not all that either.

I can't combine sports and wanking. I watch sport when I'm on a break from wanking.
So to be honest I really don't care about their looks.

Harsh crowd! I think there's a snobbish element in there. My father-in-law watches any football - if they showed a game from the Paraguayan reserve league he'd be watching. I could not - and I think in part its that I'd have no knowledge of the players, and not a care in who the winner would be. You have to care about the result before you can enjoy the game.

I laughed a little at the English, who were pretty poor for a long period of their game, but the Japanese defence was very good, the Brazilians very skillful and the Americans showed a lot of character to win their game. Maybe the soccer was inferior in standard but it wasn't bad - and, other than one Brazilian, we were spared the portion of a game were players are trying to con the referee and diving to the ground at the least contact. That was one thing - another was not watching over-inflated egos, and players who earn in a week more than I do in a year - so that was nice too. So, I'll continue to enjoy the final stages - and be happy I can.

Agree with all that Mersey. The USA-Brasil game was hugely entertaining. The England-France game was also good. The French got the win they deserved, although they should have won so much earlier.

It is nice to see players who seem to really love the game.

I watched 30 minutes of the France v England game and was shocked at just how poor the standard was.

Only saw 30 minutes of the England, France match, but the standard was appalling, and England were just chasing shadows throughout.

Rubbish.

It wasnt that bad.
England - Germany
Spain - Netherlands
Germany - Argentina
Ghana - USA
Ghana vs Uruguay

Btw the only female player I enjoy watching is Marta.

Apparently the England coach only had two people volunteer for the Pens and one of them was the young sub, (who missed). I think she used the word cowards

regards

The France v USA match at the moment is lively.

Technically poor but very few time outs, loads of determination on challenges and very quick going forward from both sides.

It was shite 10-15 years ago. Its improved a lot now

Very few what now?

Had a quick look at Sweden - Japan. Started yawning after 25 minutes.
The football they're playing is sooooo shite.

No interest in this utter shitfest whatsoever. I'm not being sexist, they're just fucking rubbish at football.

Excellent final yesterday. That first goal by Alex Morgan was a real cracker. I was also impressed by the wide play of Rapinoe and O'Reilly and Wambach's strength in the air. Americans really were the better team as the Japanese were not at their best, but America's defence was too shaky when under any pressure.
It was an exciting game with 2 teams giving everything, but playing fairly and with sportsmanship - and great to see such a boost for the Japanese nation. So, its not as fast as the men's game, its more error-prone. But take away the egos, the inflated salaries, the gamesmanship which is rampant in the men's game, and for me, its a close run thing. Maybe I'm just getting old and tired of overpaid athletes.
