Is there a case that we should persist with this combination going forward? Lovren has looked improved this season, but he's still getting beaten far too easily at times, whereas Klavan hasn't really been given a proper chance with Matip, and personally I think they looked decent against an admittedly poor West Ham in the second half on Sunday. I think the change will be forced on us due to Lovrens injury, but I have hope for the pairing.

If Klavan plays well enough Lovren should have to earn his place back, but overall I wouldn't be in a hurry to ditch the Lovren/Matip combo personally. Lovren's had good games alongside the more iffy ones and IMO that pair has been among the better CB duos on view so far this season.

I thought Klavan did well when he came on against West Ham. Lovren is probably out injured tomorrow so Klavan will get his chance to earn a starting place for the coming games.

Lovren has been much improved under Klopp but those fuck ups against Bournemouth were just not good enough and he wasnt very good against West Ham either. He should also get some flack for the way he handled his "wall duties" for the Payet goal.

Lovren has definitely been improved this season, but he's still prone to moments of madness, and seeing how easily the longer ball was beating him on Sunday was worrying, he should be reading that ball and heading it clear.

Thats clearly the writing on the wall for him....

Got me coat

Klavan has had solid games every time he has played this season.

I can't forgive Klopp for leaving him on the bench at Bournemouth and sticking bloody Lucas in the middle of our defence.

:rage:

That's one of the worst positionings of keeper and wall I've ever seen. Both should be a yard to their right.

I thought Klavan looked a trifle rocky when the Arse came back at us at The Emirates before we finally won. Mind you, so did everybody else.

Keeper yes. I said it in the match thread ahould have been almost dead centre. Wall not so sure. It was almost guaranteed the right foot of payet would hit it.

I reckon Klopp sees the CBs as follows: Matip 1st choice as right-side CB, followed by Lucas, Lovren 1st choice as left-side CB, followed by Klavan. Some may disagree with him about picking CBs positionally in this way, but I don't - there's plenty of past evidence at LFC for the fact that it can make a difference (Skrtel for example immediately improved when he was switched from left-side to right-side CB, and even Sami didn't look happy when he had to fill in as the further right of the two). Whether we have sufficient individual quality in that position overall is a different question and I wouldn't mind seeing us strengthen it in January.
