Sven-Goran Eriksson is to join the Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal next month on a one-year deal worth £1.2m, according to reports.
Eriksson, who had been linked with the managerial vacancies at Fulham and Aston Villa over the summer, has been out of work after overseeing the Ivory Coast's underwhelming World Cup campaign. The former England manager will take over the reins from Eric Gerets, who is leaving at Al Hilal to become the new manager of Morocco, once the Riyadh club's Asian Champions League campaign ends.
Al Hilal – 12-time Saudi champions who have two former Premier League players in their squad, the ex-Bolton Wanderers midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson and the former Tottenham Hotspur full-back Lee Young-pyo – face the Qatari side Al Gharafa over two legs in the Champions League quarter-finals this month.
The final of the competition is not until mid November, meaning it could be two months before Eriksson takes charge.
