Apparently Kante was offered to us this morning and we turned it down. Not to say that we would have stood a chance regardless, but still...

Kante's contract had a minimum release clause, which Chelsea met, but had we or another club put in a bid higher than the release fee, then that fee would have then became the new release fee.

Seeing that spurs tried something similar with us with ings, and the fact that chelsea are twats, as well as us crying out for a player like Kante, then it's a bit disappointing we didn't at least try to muddy the waters.

As much as I love Kante Hal, we have way too many CM's and not enough games to justify keeping them all.

Thought his release clause only was active for CL clubs and that it was 20 mill? Thats why Chelsea had to bid 32 mill to get Leicester agreeing to sell.
According to the French media he turned down 2 big English clubs and 1 big European club to sign for Chelsea.

Would have been a fantastic signing though. I doubt we had a chance regardless.

Surprised we had no interest in him, his work rate would've been perfect in a Klopp team.

Kante would have strolled into our midfield and set up a nuclear bunker instead of a tent. We don't have a single CM that even comes close to him. He would have been perfect for us with his work ethic in midfield - what a shield for our back 4 he would have been. The Echo published the rumour that we were interested in him but I guess Chelsea (for more than footballing reasons) were of more interest to him. I'd still take Drinkwater over Henderson.

I usually don't like "specialist DMs" (unless they are really, really good like Masher), but I do like Kante (who is more of an all-arounder anyway). Incredible energy and can be very positive in attack as well. Wish we could sign either him or Matuidi.

That's a great signing for Chelsea. I'd have paid that to have him play for us. Mind you, probably not the wages he's on.

I'm glad we didn't get roped into being some kind of bargaining tool for one of the parties involved in the deal... which is the only reason Kante might have been offered to us.

It's a little different to Spurs having a little pop with Ings.
