This season we are likely to end up:

2013-14 2nd (102-50) 84

So not our highest points total but the closest to the EPL title we've ever been and almost 50% more goals than we ever scored before! Balanced out by the highest goals conceded to date in the EPL

They'll be replaying this season on LFCTV as a glorious season. They don't just revel in past victories any more, they revel in pathetic collapses, too. The whole club lives in the past, when the stadium is re-built it should have a giant rear view mirror on display above the front.

Did we collapse?
The general consensus is that we ran out of steam or something.

The freshest team in the league ran out of steam? Next season will be really impressive then!

Good god. Second in the league along with huge progress on last season, and yet were shit and the future looks bleak. Come on.
While I understand the end of the season is an anti climax and a massive disappointment, things are looking good.

Having said that, I know what you mean about being fresh this season. It's a little worry, but then with the extra funds and so new players coming in for next season, that will help on that front.

Rodgers' style, involving as it does maximum effort right from the start, makes heavy physical demands on the players. Over the season as a whole they've definitely improved their ability to meet those demands, but the squad has ultimately not been big enough and that's negated the advantage we got from not being in the Europa League, so new players - of the right standard - will be crucial.

Agree totally. The window this season is more important than the previous years. For the reasons above and because of just how important getting top four next season is. Getting a slice of the huge jump in financial rewards from the cl the season after next is something that we need to prioritise. I'd take a long term view and maybe go without a trophy if it means getting top four.

No, lots of you are deluding yourselves.

How so?

If you'd offered 4th place at the beginning of the season most people would've been perfectly happy with that.

If you'd offered 2nd, most would've bitten your hand off.

If you'd said we'd only be out of the title race at the whistle on the final day, most wouldn't believe you.

Yes, it's been an absolute gutter, we've been put through the emotional wringer, one-and-all, but you're letting yourself down today mate.

You're better than this, c'mon

here's some perspective. even getting into the champions league doesn't stop this being a fucking shit season.

It's a miracle we got so close to a team like City. They're light years ahead of us in terms of strength in depth.

Realistically, it'll be a miracle for us to surpass City ever given the gulf in investment. They're being linked with Messi for £165m for goodness sake. And that's their reality. We've had to get Moses and Cissokho on loan!

We've had a great run this season and yeah, we let it slip through our fingers but we are a completely different club now to the one that started the season. We've a lot to celebrate.

We need to win trophies next season.
Long and the short of it.
Weve moved on from the G+H days and we look a really good side again.
But without silverware we are nothing.

People had us at 6th/7th before the season started.
To finish 2nd is insane.

Yeah I'm disapointed but when this settles the pride will kick in.
No one has ever made a jump from 7th to 2nd in Premier league history.
And freshest team in the league? The other top teams have 2 full 11's in their squad.
We've got 13-14 players that are good enough. Fuck that shite.

We have won cups at various times since the last time we won the title though. IMO it isn't so much trophies in general that we need to get back winning, it's the title in particular. Cups are the icing on the cake - nice, but not the real thing. I now want a realistic title challenge every season.

It's ironic that Macca keeps banging on about the team collapsing and showing its worth when they were under the most pressure. Kind of like his support for the club.

Not really the kind of guy you want in a battle, I'd venture to suggest.

Second is nowhere. It's where dust is blown away. Only, being Liverpool, the ultimate past fetishists, that dust will now be collected up and arranged in pretty shapes saying much the same stuff as Evertonians used to say about Moyes. 'Winners even though they haven't won'. That sort of crap. To get into such a position and then throw it all away in such a disgracefully unprofessional way, really the thickest and wettest of ways, ought to haunt those preening little shit bags for the rest of their lives, but I doubt they'll even think about it after tomorrow. And now these poor exhausted players, 'the freshest team in the league,' will go on to talk the talk through August to May next season, probably while bombing out of cups, and then be humiliated again by the likes of Tony fucking Pulis. That's right: Tony fucking Pulis. It's an appalling end to the season.
