I think I'll have to abstain from this one. A couple of games into Jones' run I'd have said Reina all day, but given his growing confidence and his performances in the last 3, I think it'd be a bit unfair to sweep him aside for Reina, who himself has struggled this season.

Jones has made some good saves and credit it to him for that, but I'm still going to go with Reina.

Reina was going through a bad patch of form but he's built up enough credit during his time here to deserve a bit of faith. We're not talking Downing levels of shitness here.

Still think his complete and utter shite distribution hurts us badly as it constantly gives the ball back to the opposition and puts us under huge pressure for no apparent reason.
He made some good stops and catches today, so well done for that.
But Reina all day long for me.

I don't want to answer.

You shouldn't drop form players, and at the minute Jones is playing himself into quite good form

Reina without a doubt, Reina is capable of passing the ball short and not getting us back under the cosh every time he kicks. Brad is pissing me off no end with it - every kick ends up with the opposition ont he attack. But, Reina has been dropping clangers all over the shop before his 'injury'.

Reina, but I'm glad to see that Jones hasn't been the nightmare everyone feared he'd be. At least we know now we have a backup keeper who, while not superb, can be called upon to do a decent-enough job when we need him to.

I am surprising myself with how ambivalent I am right now on who starts.
With Pepe's poor run of form and Brad seemingly coming into some good there isn't much in it.
Pepe if I am really pushed as he has the big match experience and can hopefully regain his form which is a couple of notches above what Brad can aspire to.

We need to be thankful that Jones hasn't been awful when called upon, but we also have to recognise that there are reasons why he's been a back up keeper for most of his career. The more we play him the more we'll see those reasons

We've got through relatively unscathed without Pepe, but when he's fit he plays for me.

*SHOCKED*
You're taking the piss, surely.

Some good points made on here. I don't fully agree with the stick Jones is getting for his distribution though, it's not that bad, but we've been spoiled with Pepe who acts as a sweeper for us and is a good footballer aswell as a good keeper.

Overall, I have to agree with Keni and Ross, Reina deserves some support and the benefit of the doubt because he's been a great keeper for us up until a couple of dodgy spells over the last season or two. Backup keepers are generally most clubs nightmares to have to call upon but this lad has done really, really well and proven himself to be a more than able deputy who's saved our skin a few times too. It couldn't happen to a nicer, more deserving guy so in that respect, I'm made up for him.

I don't know how to rate Jones because I can't remember having seen him apart from his few appearances for us. He's improved a little since he's had a few games. As many have said, he's a good shot stopper; how much he can improve is a difficult question. There's obviously much more to Pepe's game but then again his form has been poor. So it seems much of a muchness at the moment, but I'm really pleased for Jones to get a chance.

When in form Reina is untouchable at Liverpool.

Having said that he has been dodgy all season & right now Jones has been playing rather well and for me he shouldn't be dropped until he plays a bad game.

Selection should be on current form and not past performances.

It's a tricky one, with Jones the main problem with him was clearly confidence and it is patently growing game by game. I thought he was excellent last night and one of his saves was truly top drawer stuff. Reina hasnt looked like his heart is in it for a while, understandably perhaps after so many false dawns and years wasted without trophies BUT.... he is the better keeper on his day...

Maybe Reina deserve a bit of loyalty from the club, but then maybe he needs the kick up the arse that Jones is looking increasingly able to give him. It's a tricky one alright.

Not really fussed either way, both have +s and -s.

However, IMO, you have to be able to demonstrate to players that, if they come in and do a job, they'll stay in. If you do the opposite, what message are you sending to your squad players?

Class vs form - always a difficult question. I'm glad I'm not the one making that decision: no matter what you decide, it's unfair.

Alan Greene on 5 live, claimed he knew reina was actually fit to play and was in fact dropped.

BS?

Greene has had good links inside the club & is a Liverpool fan so I'm loath to write it off completely.

However the leaked team was spot on bar him, which suggests it was a last minute thing, so either its not true, or Reina said something yhat ensured he was left out, which also seems unlikely.

In summary, I have no idea.

Hope that helps.

If Reina were dropped from the starting team, he'd at least make the bench instead of sitting in the stands. Hard to believe we'd stick Gulacsi on the bench when Reina was fit but not preferred to start.

I think Pepe needed a bit of a kick up the arse. He has been hit and miss and not just this season, think back to a basic error in the final , he has been solely at fault for a number of goals. this could be just what he needed, then again it might turn out very differently.
Ideally I would like to see a rejuvenated Pepe back in and a confident Brad stepping back without any nightmares to his name,

Mentally I doubt it's done him any good at all to be a glorified bystander while his country's won everything in sight. He's learned over the years to be a brilliant cheerleader, but it hasn't done anything for his mentality. Other keepers over the years with his kind of quality have been driven by a festering sense of ambition and competitiveness, a la Clemence and Shilton. Reina has been number one in a team that hasn't challenged much and number 2 in a team that hasn't needed him. He's badly needed a challenge from somewhere. Jones was an unlikely source, but if it gives him a belated sense of purpose then it'll be a godsend.
