So when is he coming to join us, he's constantly linked to us according to the tabloids but I've not heard of him been linked to others and I'm sure he said he wants to leave koln, he'd be feckin perfect for our left back.

You shoudl have called this The LB Thread or summat.

X-post.

Rodriguez (buyout clause was Euros 24M, I think it lapsed end of August), De Sciglio (supposedly 17m), Hector (20m) are the top three options. I've also seen Criscito from Zenit and Gaya from Valencia mentioned (not linked) though I don't remember ever having seen them play so those are not even on my radar. Can anyone else suggest anyone not called Amavi, Childwell or Willems ?

Oh and I thought De Sciglio was the best LB at the Euros. Hector does have great stats in the BL though and is coming off an excellent season.

He would but the fee's been inflated by some fine Euro 2016 appearances. We've clearly got money left to spend but I hope we are just considering our options for the time being and ensuring we get the best value for money we can.

The lack of links to LB's has surprised me a lot.

Apparently he has said that he wants to stay at Cologne.
He said something along the lines that he wouldn't have went through the preseason medical with Cologne if he intended to leave.
I suspect that we have made an inquiry and we got a "no thanks"

His price has to come down a bit as we get closer to September. Surely Köln cannot hold on to a Germany's first-choice LB, especially since the player himself wants to leave (there were reports he is very interested in joining Klopp). I still think we'll get him.

He has apparently said that the reports that he wanted to leave were fabricated by the media

Get Can involved, I'm sure he's tried to get his pal over, I'm sure £20m would be suffice.

Yeah, it's always contradictory – players typically don't want to offend their parent club and their fans, so they often walk back reports of them pushing to leave. Like Pogba who "was definitely staying" until he was gone. I wouldn't treat this denial seriously, I can't imagine that a player would turn down an opportunity to switch from Köln to Liverpool, especially given how LFC is perceived in Germany now that Klopp is there. Also Klopp wouldn't pursue him if wasn't confident the player wants to join – the price is the sticking point, it seems.

Perhaps and hopefully.
I am just posting what I read from a Cologne based poster on another site.
The club and the local media seem pretty confident that Hector is going to stay and he seems to have rejected a number of offers to leave.
Of course he could be playing hard ball and he hasn't signed a contract extension yet.

He has now.
