Joke (in the) hole

Just to be clear to all those going on about Cole exposing the fullback - I'm advocating playing him in behind Suarez. We haven't seen him at his best partly because he's not cut out (certainly this late in his career) to play left or right of a 3. Behind Suarez would make best use of his attributes, namely his movement, creativity and finishing ability (his goal record at Chelsea reflects his role on the left of a 4-4-2 under Mourinho).

That said, I'm all for giving Suso a prolonged go there too.

Good post.

It's an interesting option anyway, whoever has played the hole role this season hasn't really pulled up trees, so a change is worth it just to see if we can push on and add a couple of goals to us.

We only have one player who's suited for that position and it's Suso.

Based on his performances in the U18s, Spain and reserves.

Based on first team performances he does not deserve to play ahead Cole in that position given that it's goals we need. In an ideal world Cole is Joe Cole of old, we're up 3-0 with 20 mins to go, Suso comes on to get experience.

We shouldn't and aren't looking at Suso to come in and fill that gap

Cole did really well in that position in his first season here.

I think Suso has done alright when played this season. Certainly better than Cole has, anyway.

What do you mean better than Cole? Cole scored in the last game, which means he's the best option we have. Don't tell me you're bringing every other game he's played in for us, into this discussion?

Not sure if whoosh...

The fact you've just backed that up with what he's done at junior level doesn't really give it much credibility. He's had alot of meh games for us, more than good games anyway. He's got a long way to go. No one's really saying that Cole is the best option, it's just an option we haven't really tried in this set up, and during his last couple of games he's looked sharper, fitter and has bagged two goals. That's all, it's worth a try, that's all, regardless of what might be the best option a year or so down the line.

At least back it up with something worthwhile.

Yeah I backed it up with how glorious Cole was in that position during the Hodgson days as well.

How long has Suso been playing for our first team? The kids 19 years old. The only experience he has is, youth and reserve football so that's the only thing I can bring up.

Also Joe was so unbelievably good in the middle that every manager since his west ham days played him on the wing.
I'd say that Suso has more experience playing in the middle than Cole.

Not true. He often played in the centre for Chelsea. England managers always parked him out wide because his ability was such that they wanted him in the side but they didn't know how else to fit him in. It's happened before, e.g.to McMoneyman in his England days (whereas when he went to Real, where they do know how to handle talent properly, he was played in the centre). Rodgers has consciously modelled himself along Spanish lines as a coach and, if anyone can get the best out of Cole down the middle, he can.

It's wishful thinking imo. The guy is 31. We need to be real. I'd rather we roll the dice with Suso.

What we need to do is maximise ALL the assets we've got and get the utmost out of them, while we build ourselves up to a position where we can go out and buy better. Suso is a very promising player but he's not yet ready to be relied on for a whole season. I'm not saying we have to hold on to Joe Cole, but his wages will put other clubs off (otherwise Lille might well have signed him) so my bet is we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future.

"He's 31", whats that got to do with it? How old is giggs? The type of movement for his goal against west ham and the one before that didn't require pace, it required brains.

The fuck kinda argument is that? Is the premise the same? Is Giggs just as good as Cole?
I'm talking about a overrated moneygrabbing chav cunt, who's been fucking useless in every game he's played except like two and now you're bringing up how Rodgers suddenly is gonna make him some kind of world beater? Give me a fucking break.

It's same kind of attitude people had about Downing before the season started, thinking there's no way he'd be as shit as he was last season. Goes to fucking show.

Cole is a fat, slow, braniless and overrated excuse of a midfielder. It's like watching David Silva, Mata and co in slow motion and failing with every dribble and pass.

I'm going to say this in defence of cole

The only time he got to play for us consistently, was under Hodgson.
He never got a good chance under kenny as it was impossible to drop one of the triumverate of kuyt, maxi and suarez
At Lille he did quite well.

That's the only defence there is for Cole. I also acknowledge that he did well there. But from what I've seen that league is pretty poor.
Cole might score a couple this season, still doesn't justify his wages. We're paying him world class player money and he's not close to being world class.
