Adam Johnson has denied three charges of sexual activity with a girl under 16 in his first appearance at Crown Court.

The 27-year-old Sunderland winger, who appeared in the dock at Durham Crown Court dressed in a grey suit and white shirt, also denied one charge of grooming.

Johnson entered the court surrounded by his legal team, and spoke to enter his not guilty pleas. He was arrested in March after he was accused of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

The three counts of sexual activity with a child were alleged to have taken place on one night in January at two locations in County Durham, while the offence of meeting a child after sexual grooming was alleged to have happened between December and February.

Johnson, who has played 12 times for England, lives in Castle Eden, County Durham. Born in Sunderland, he began his career at Middlesbrough before moving to Manchester City and then Sunderland for £10m in 2012.

Johnson’s trial is scheduled to begin on 24 August.
 
Risky move that. The Police must have a messages to warrant the charges and they must have a clear intention. I'm guessing they also contained details of meetings between the two.
 
The shite thing is he won't go into general population when he rightly goes to prison. He'll go into some pc unit with a nice TV and with his money he can buy his own food etc.

The scumbag will be out in a year with good behaviour.

Is that based on anything other than the Daily Mail?
 
Well I can only speak for US prisons. OJ Simpson was in mine for a year or so and he was living pretty well, he even bought off the skinheads.

English prison might be different though.
 
Its not that different. A scumbag I know got a "minimum 16 month sentence" in December. She's out.

I also did jury service a while ago, we found a guy guilty on a few charges, he got 18 months, I saw him on a bus a few months later.
 
Yup, the justice system is fucked. You've got child molesters being sentenced like drug dealers and parole violators.
Luckily I'm a wanker and make it my business to make life hard for the chomo's.

Hopefully Johnson gets treated accordingly.
