Agree with the first sentence, not with the second. He's no winger, and will always run inside even if he lines up out there. If we do get him we'll still need more quality out wide.

I've seen him wizz past plenty of fullbacks, diagonally run towards the penalty area and put a low ball in for an assist. If having someone do that on the wing for us isn't strengthening our wide positions, you've got a very different opinion of Kuyt and Babel than I do.

Let's agree to differ. I've seen Cole do that at times too, but I don't know where you get your "plenty" from. IMO Cole's a better, more dangerous player than either Deadly or Babel and would undoubtedly improve our line-up, but if it's width we want (and we do) we'll need to look elsewhere as well.

Huh? How is diagonally running towards the penalty area, i.e. cutting in, strengthens our wide positions? Surely, not cutting in will increase our quality out wide?

Joe Cole:

West Ham 1998-2003 Played 126 Scored 10

Chelsea 2003 -2010 Played 175 scored 26

Dirk Kuyt:

Utrecht 1998-2003 Played 160 scored 51

Feyernoord 2003-2006 Played 101 scored 51

Liverpool 2006-2010 Played 134 scored 36

Actually even though on paper Kuyt miles ahead of Cole for goals, Cole would probably strengthen the team if Deadly was used as the 2nd striker we all so desperatly want.

it would sort out the 2 positions we need and just leave a left back and maybe a better left winger for the pittance we will get as a cash sum to strengthen come summer.

Not sure you're comparing like with like there. Deadly may have scored lots in the Eredivisie, but the Prem's a much harder league in which to do so - witness the fact that he's ended up on our right wing. I like the guy, though, and I'd be happy to keep him as a squaddie, so overall I agree with you.

Providing it's not a mega wage, cole would be a great buy

We have Kuyt, Benayoun & now Maxi for the right.

Joe Cole & maxi are similar types of players.

I've never fancied Joe Cole on the left.

Therefore, decent player that he is, his best position is not one of the critical positions we need filled and the ridiculously high wages he would no doubt demend would be best spent elswhere.

Who gives a shite if Cole's not an out and out winger etc etc, he's a quality footballer and we signed him i'd be over the moon.

He'd walk straight into our starting 11.

Exactly, fuck the wings. He's a quality player and will improve our squad. We have to start considering injuries to Torres and Gerrard. We also need another striker.

I love Cole, and he's perfect for Rafa's systems, but there is no such thing as 'free', especially when his wage demands will be in excess of 100,000- considering his injury record we could end up paying half a million a game.

That's enough to make the eyes water.
