Made England U21 Captain yesterday.

Good lad. I'm looking forward to seeing him get game time this season.

Will be like a new signing.

He looks competent enough to be playing for us. Not sure how much of a look in he will get once clyne is fit though, given TAA is also lurking

He can fit in anywhere across the back four, so he'll get games.

I hope he really pushes on this season.

I used to think Clyne was our most consistent player, but last season I thought he had lost a bit of form. His defending was OK but when he went forward, his crosses weren't finding anybody. I am not particularly anxious to see him back in the team.

Gomez has been good since his return. He does a lot of the heavy lifting in defence.

Gomez on the right is good both offensively and defensively.

TAA is very good offensively but not so good defensively.

Clyne is very good defensively but not so good offensively.

Then there is still Flanagan.

The RB position went from Clyne and no one else to become one of the most hotly contested spot. Love it.

I don't think Gomez' long-term future will be at RB. He's actually left-footed and, while Klopp likes his front players playing on the "wrong" wing, his FBs need to attack on the outside more. Gomez is needed at RB for the moment and has done well there, but in time he'll either swap wings or move into the centre IMO.

Gomez is right-footed.

Gomez is right-footed.

At one point during the Arsenal game he cut back on to his left foot and put an inswinging cross in, at which point the commentator said he favoured his left, which is what I was basing my post on. Happy to be corrected though.

Hope Gomez is tops at CB cos he'll be getting a few games there over the coming weeks and months

Matip - Lovren - Klavan - Gomez

That's it, isn't it?

Anyone think he might be our CB saviour this season? He has always been a CB after all....does he play there for England?

It's not great, I can't believe van dijk was the only player that could have improved us at centre half. But that's the choice Klopp/the club have made. We need to deal with it now, but there will be some serious questions to answer if we suffer any long term injuries or suspensions in the defence.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Can at centre half if we suffer injuries in that position before the January transfer window

No, he plays RB for England U-21 as well...

At right back Clyne is always going to be solid and would be my choice in the 1st 11 for now but clearly Trent has a higher ceiling. Gomez has looked great too but can't shake the feeling he's a natural CB playing RB. Long term will Trent stay as a RB or will he develop into centre mid or right mid? Good options to have, couple of real talents here.
