Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is interested in bringing Joe Cole to Queens Park Rangers and is planning talks with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

has been unable to make an impact at Liverpool

this season following Rodgers' appointment after spending last term on loan at French side Lille.

The midfielder has yet to start a Premier League game under Rodgers and was not involved when Liverpool won 3-0 at QPR on Sunday.
Redknapp handed Cole his professional debut at West Ham United

and remains a big fan of the 31-year-old as he looks to improve his QPR squad.
"I've got a lot of time for Joe, as a player and a person, he's a good lad to have around your football club, a good player," said Redknapp.

Harry Redknapp Quotes of the week

"He's interesting me. I'd like to bring him here if we could. We'll see what happens.
"The deal would have to be right for the club. We couldn't do a deal with Liverpool with what his contract is at Liverpool. We'd have to try to find a way of doing a deal with Liverpool, if they're willing to let him go.
"I'll have to speak with Brendan, I'll have a chat with him when the time's right and see what he has to say.
"I haven't spoken to Joe, I'm not allowed to speak to Joe. Are you trying to get me banned by the FA?
"I haven't spoken to Joe for two years. I nearly took him to Tottenham a couple of years ago but he went to Liverpool, that was last time I spoke to Joe. He's a great lad."
The former Tottenham boss is battling to keep QPR in the Premier League and has reiterated his view that signing players in the January transfer window is not easy.
He added: "January is so difficult. It's a tough time to find players. We're in a desperate situation, but we'll see what happens this week.
"I've got a list of names, obviously. But getting them isn't easy and it's all about getting value. Attitude and ability are important for us. We need players who will come in and make an impact."

My take would be to pay up his contract and look to get as much of this back from QPR as possible.

We 'owe' him £7m in wages for the next 18 months and so that would be what I'd ask for from QPR. When they refuse to pay, then I'd look to Joke to agree a compromise on his exit payment to allow a clean break and a fresh start for him back in London. When the sums match in and out I'd shake his hand and thank him.

It'll take a while but should be possible to end up in a no-lose situation.

Ask him if he wants to play every game for QPR, or continue to be a non factor with us.

Hopefully, he'll want to play - tell QPR we'll take 2 million and pay half of salary for the duration of the contract.

Yet again, the comments sound far more blatant than the few Rodgers made about Dempsey but one is tapping up and the other is Redknapp.

You're so naive if you really believe Harry was talking about OUR Joe Cole. He was probably talking about him while reminiscing about his lovely days at West Ham. No other managers do this - bar Liverpool managers of course!

Can we pretend we don't want to let him go and then do the idiot? He's just hung himself there, "if Liverpool are willing to do business". Though it's about the millionth time he's done it and gotten away with it.

Wouldn't disagree with the above but I still hope this works out, for Joe Cole's sake as well as ours. He's not to blame for the terms we offered him and his attitude has always been good, even if the end product hasn't.

Blimey....how can you be accused of tapping up a player you know the owning team would willingly get rid off? Tap away Redknapp.... tap away...

If we only end up paying a couple of million of the 7M outstanding in the contract it will be a hell of a result for us IMO, at the same time i fail to see how on earth Joke Hole is the player that QPR need to get them out of the shit they are in.

£50k for 18 months = £3.9M so we lose £1.9M on the deal. I vote no.

I'm not sure Cole would be happy to accept Championship football just yet, which is essentially what he'd be doing if he went to QPR.

Ah... Tapping up a player who is so unwanted that we spent heavily to let him not play for us last season? Give Arry a break.... nothing wrong this time.

So how is it better to keep a player we dont want nor play and pay him 7M of totally wasted money? I vote FUCK YES.

Not what I'm saying, read my post 2nd in thread.

I'm saying we ensure the deal does not lose us money - If, for example, QPR only offer £2m the we wait for Joke to accept a small reduction in salary to get his move back to London and playing every week.

Oh and all the agent's fees are QPR's

I don't see how we are going to save any money out of this. Say we are paying half of his wages in the 18 mths if he were to join QPR, he would know after 18 mths he will be taking a 50% pay cut while we have saved some money. If I were him I would want some of that money in a golden handshake for my loss or I'll rather take a chance to see out my contract and look for a free transfer after 18 mths.

But he may wanna, you know, play footy?

Please, please, please, please, please let this happen. To anyone. I cannot stand seeing his face. I cannot stand that he ever played for us.
