Received a text message from my friend in Japan who is a big FC Tokyo fan.

He said that Liverpool are set to offer FCT's South Korean defender, Jang Hyun-Soo, a one week trial at the club during December. Should the trial be successful, Liverpool can then purchase him for 1M GBP.

I saw him play a few times for FC Tokyo earlier this year, looked pretty decent - was selected for the South Korea Olympic squad, but an injury leading up to the tournament ruled him out.

Have been in touch with a friend in Seoul who rates him highly.

He was signed by the current manager of FCT, Ranko Popovic, who is essentially the Brendan Rodgers of J-League football. FCT gained promotion from the 2nd division and have performed quite well this season ... by far they play the most attractive football in the league, dominating opponents each game, however they just don't have the killer ability to finish off games - otherwise they'd be right up near the top.

Jang Hyun-Soon was brought in because he fits that style of play, building/playing out from the back.

Will be interesting to see how this one pans out. He's not the first central defender Rodgers has look at from the J-League.

Liverpool are to offer a trial to FC Tokyo’s Jang Hyun-Soo.
The 21-year-old South Korea defender is due at Liverpool in December.
Hyun-Soo has only made six appearances for his club and would cost Liverpool £1million.

Don't know what to believe. Have another mate in Japan who is a big fan of FCT a generally in the know, he reckons it's pure fantasy this rumour.

I don't know what to make of it.

Ive heard that Rodgers has looked at a few centre backs in the J-League so from that I kinda believe it. But on the other hand this lad was being linked with a loan move to Brisbane in the A-League a few months back.

Yeah, but we have Wisdom and Kelly who're both centre-backs by trade. I'd think based on what we've seen so far, Wisdom is capable of taking over Carra's role of 4th choice centre-half next season.

We really have other priorities.

Maybe, but Rodgers could see Wisdom as a right back. For 1 mill its not the biggest gamble around either.
I've no idea if this lad is any good, but we're linked with loads of players these days. 95% of the linkes are bs.

Sometimes the point of signing a player from SE Asia is not necessarily to play them.

It's a different sort of ability they're adding to the club, than the ability to play.

Added bonus if they can actually play.

Perhaps, but I very much doubt a nobody defender that was plying his trade in the Korean second division is really going to lead to Liverpool mania in Asia.

There are enough Asian players that are actually good and worth signing if that's the direction we want to take.
