Pepe Reina has, so far, seemed immune to injuries, thank God. But if he were to get crocked, would you really want to depend on any of our young reserve keepers? I'd argue that we need a reliable, experienced second goalie - and David James would be perfect: old enough to accept not playing every week, intelligent and generally liked, English (for the UEFA rules), could help coach the younger keepers, and available on a free. Who would be better?

Also, we have 5 young keepers currently - Hansen, Bouzanis, Gulacsi, Oldfield and Chamberlain. I'd like to know what's the point of stockpiling them if we don't promote at least one to be our reserve keeper.

Oldfield is transfer listed, i think. Gulasci is likely to be promoted to the 1st team if Cavalalalalier goes IMO.

james ? In an instant. However not playing regularly is not the same as not playing at all - Pepe is immune to injury *wishes he hadn't said that*.

It looks as if he is off to celtic.

Celtic want him. He's available. Doesn't mean he'll fancy living in Scotland though...

We could let him play in the Europa League. That's 20-odd games already...

I mentioned it in the transfers thread when I read that Pompey withdrew their contract offer. I think that he'd love to make a return but I just can't see him enjoying bench duty. He is still a top keeper.

Yup, he seems to be highly rated

Not a chance of him coming to us - publicly stated that he has 1 to 2 seasons left in him and just wants to play as much as he can; if Celtic are in for him, I would expect him to go there.

I'd love him on the bench. A fantastic character, however he's never going to come and sit on our bench as he just wants to enjoy playing football while he can.

Having seen David James' Anfield career, I am deeply suspicious of him. On his day, he is a great keeper, but every so often he had bizarre brainstorms that cost us matches. He tended to save these up for the big occasions like the Cup Final, too.

I doubt whether pride would allow James to spend his time warming the bench for most of the season, either.

Thats the one thing I hate the most about the europa league. We'll have to play more games on a monday and any of our bigger or tougher games will more than likely be on a sunday down to television rights. Meaning we'll have less time to prepare for the likes of the scum, chelsea and arsenal than we would for lower table teams after a flight from the back arse of eastern europe on a thurday night or friday morning! Oh, plus a ridiculous amount of extra games!

Given that Jamo is still England's number one I would be surprised if he would want to spend the rest of his career (which is drawing to a close) sitting on our bench, only playing the odd game in minor competitions.

And you end up stupidly fucking hungove every Monday morning, or having to book it off to go on the traditional big game all day session.
