Atletico sell Jackson Martinez to Chinese club for €42 million

Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande say they have signed striker Jackson Martinez from Atletico Madrid for an astonishing fee of €42 million.

Martinez, 29, signed a four-year contract, the Chinese club said on their website on Wednesday morning and they also posted a tweet confirming the deal.

Atletico, who were yet to confirm the move in the early hours of Wednesday, paid €35m six months ago to bring in Martinez from Porto, but the Colombia international struggled in La Liga, scoring just twice in 15 appearances.

The €42m represents the biggest transfer fee ever paid by a team from Asia, according to AS.
 
We could probably get £30m or so for Balotelli and at least as much for Benteke in the summer if they accept to play in the Chinese league. They are building up the league and will splash a lot of cash.

I'm not surprised. They also want to sign Zlatan according to the Swedish media.
 
We should get on the blower, they could pretty much have all of our team gladly. Imagine getting 30mill for Mignolet.

Thats almost 300m yuan. Not sure how they can afford it or how it can ever be profitable. I think per ticket there is 300 yuan.
 
China is my only hope for getting any kind of return on Balotelli. Or maybe the Middle East.

It feels like we are not tight with the right people. If you can't beat 'em...
 
Maybe if Chinese clubs start buying all the decent players, we'll have a chance of winning something.
