The 'warning as to his future conduct' seems rather unnecessary
I think it's more of a warning to other footballers who've thought in the past of doing similar.

This is the only good thing the FA have done in about 5 years.

So not available for last two matches of season. Hhhhmmmm - Spurs fan on the panel?

He probably put on a weekly acca once a week for that 5 year period or something stupid like that.

Betting on your own team to lose - kind of "understandable" (as in no team, maybe except Man City, is unbeatable) but still...

I haven't heard that widely disputed TBF, though the appropriateness of not allowing him even to train has been questioned.

Wow betting on your team to lose. Yep, ban justified. Not to mention kinda insulting to your teammates

Personally I think it's right Toney cannot train with the squad, otherwise it's less of a punishment than a player pulling his ACL. If they were allowed to train they're still in and around their teammates every day and kicking a ball around.

Betting on your own team to lose strikes at the very core of whatever few values the game still has. The punishment is fitting, IMO, and could have even been harsher.

[article]These included 13 bets on his own club to lose, although Toney was not involved in those games. In 11 cases the bets were against Newcastle while he was on loan elsewhere and the other two relate to a Wigan v Aston Villa match while he was on loan at Wigan but not in the squad.

Betting on your own team to lose can carry a life ban, as can gambling on your own performance in a match, something Toney was also found to have done.

He placed 15 bets on himself to score and 16 on his team to win. He also shared inside information on a match, used third parties to gamble on his behalf and withheld information from the investigation.

Not as bad when you read beyond the headline, but still, 8 month ban is probably about right. I like that they showed some empathy for his apparent gambling addiction when considering the sentencing.

A full 180 from the original post...

Fwiw. I think the 4 months not allowed to train with the club is lenient.

Part of the ban was because of insider trading. I.e. tipping off if he was starting. Probably some were for other surprise players starting.
