We played ok today, we looked strangely toothless up top, but we played ok.

We were 6 points behind Chelsea 2 weeks ago and we are still 6 points behind them having played them at their ground. Thats ok that is.

We are no more out of the title race than we were 2 weeks ago and are no further away than we need to be.

Buuuuuut we have to get things sorted at the back or we really are finished. Carragher needs dropping and Agger taking his place now he's fit. I know that wont be popular, but he is a liability at the minute, and we MUST change. If you remain the same, results will remain the same.

Heres my HOPE for our next game in 2 weeks.

-----------------------------------Reina---------------------------------
Johnson--------Agger---------------------------Skrtel---------Insua
---------------------Mascherano-----Aquilani-------------------------
---------------------------------Gerrard---------------------------------
Kuyt----------------------------------------------------------------Yossi
----------------------------------Torres----------------------------------

Agreed, for the most part.

We did well for the majority of the match against, wothout question, the strongest team in the league.

Our own silly mistake when under NO pressure is what cost us that game. Before that, we were reasonably comfortable.

The sky's not falling. Though I also agree it does needs some patching here and there...

We've come unstuck against any half decent side we've played so far. Last season was our chance to win the league. I just can't see it happening this season.

swap insua for aurelio and i'm with u on this.

lucas is a passenger
carra is not the future
riera is average

lets build a team that can compete for next seasons league.

Oncey - I'll say one the key to our season rests in two comments you made.

1) We desperately need Aquaman. I don't know how good he is, or what he'll bring compared to Alonso BUT I do know we need a player next to our DM (be it Mascherano or Lucas) to hold the ball and move it. The fact we rely on Lucas and Mascherano to move the ball causes us serious issues. It limits our creativity greatly, and forces Gerrard to drop further away from the goal.

2) I don't know if it's temporary but our CB partnership is becoming a sad thing to watch. I don't know if what's happening with Carra, but he doesn't inspire confidence and I think for his sake (& the team's), Agger needs to be starting next to Skrtel while he sorts himself out.

I thought we'd lose 3-1 today, and I wasn't upset we'd lost. We have been playing poorly to average the whole season - that leaves me some hope, but I think I have to start hoping Chelsea pull away and win the league so the Mancs don't get their 20th.

Me neither. I've no expectations that we'll win anything this season.
Probably a better approach than tearing my hair out like last time. ;D

If the Mancs get a run of bad luck we can hopefully catch up, they've been ridiculously jammy so far this season.

The big problem was letting Alonso go and buying a replacement who wasn't going to be available for the first 2 months of the season.

Where hope seems to fall flat is the fact we've not got any proven stars out injured who will give us a boost when they return. That was last season's mantra, Gerrard or Torres missing. Currently we are at full (proven) strength and, it seems, pinning our hopes on Aquilani...

He's not even a replacement though, is he? He's going to unbalance the team if, by all accounts, he's going to have to play as an attacking midfielder.

Fancy seeing you after a loss, eh?

I was angry after the Spurs and Villa games, today I'm just disappoined, it wasn't a 2-0, both sides were poor in what was a poor game.

I think Chelsea, for all our scowling at their ageing stars, they showed their experience today.

I thought it was quite a decent game, myself.

Two good teams. One with more attacking prowess, who took advantage of a mistake and their speed to decide the game.

Really, we lost one point today, not three. They'll not lose there all season.

And we'll be there or there abouts come May. Though I fear that we may have just lost to the champions.

I (and no doubt others too) thought this a major issue. Fact is we are trying to hang onto the coat-tails of the leaders until such time as Aquilani is fit .... and then pray he is the replacement for Xabi that we need. If we are not too far behind ... and if he is the right player for us, then we are still in with a chance.

First off, Chelski of today reminds of me the old 'boring-boring-Arsenal' team.

They play at a rather small ground (like Highbury was) and they seem to first and foremost appreciate a good defense. Although playing in a 4-4-2 they are still by far the most defenisve looking top 4 team. They are extremely boring to watch really - but effective admittedly.

They've got loads of good players and they'll win a lot of games too but I believe we'll be the stronger team over the course of the Season. It may seem a bold statement after a 2-0 loss at theirs but nonetheles that's exactly how I see it.

Anyways, Agger will be a welcomed addition to the squad but I'm not so sure it'll be on Carra's dispense. Skrtl, besides tonight, has been equally poor and I'm not sure the time is right to drop Carra at all. We need him desperately and we need him to gain some self-confidence as well.

I'd go for Agger and Carra for the games to come.

It is a disappointment and a big worry, especially given his overall injury record. But (big but) if this lad goes on to be a quality regular, then the two months would have been well worth it. Shit happens.

I thought Insua was ok, particularly in the first half. Aurelio is much better as an attacking threat though.
Insua is, by and large, solid and dependable in terms of sticking to the basics, if you exclude positional sense, in which I thought he and Johnson once against got caught lacking far too many times.

we looked pretty good but lightweight. we needed another top signing this summer.

Or one that was fit in September.

While he, a bit like Masher, had a decent game he was partly responcible for the goal too as he stopped tracking Anelka giving him an unhindered opportunity on goal.
He is a decent player for his age but that is I think at least the third time I can remember that he has failed to track a player in similar fashion to today, resulting in that player scoring against us

Just skimmed all this...

it was our best performance this seasona gainst the best team we've played.... we were slightly unlucky a draw would not have been harsh on them.

It aint over either.

And we did need to strengthen and we didnt.

And we need Aquilani to be the dogs bollox to have a good shot at anything this season.

I reckon he will be because im defiant and optimistic at my core.

you'd drop carra oncy?

I'd change the fuck out of our formation.

One up front is useless when there's no support, as today showed.

5-3-2 ftw.

Johnson-Carra-Skrtel-Agger-Fab
Mascherano
Aquilani Gerrard

Kuyt Torres

only injury would make me drop carra, he offers more than just flinging his body in front of a shot. I suspect rafa is the same.
Yes. And you and Rafa are wrong. He's having a fucking mare and needs dropped. We are shipping 2 goals a game. Our title will be over and done with if we dont change soon.
