Darren Bent is reportedly closing in on a January loan to Liverpool after being axed by Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert for the home draw with Arsenal.

The striker, 28, was available after missing three games with an ankle problem but Lambert instead preferred rookie Jordan Bowery as his back-up forward for Saturday’s 0-0 stalemate with the Gunners.
Now Liverpool, who are in desperate need of extra firepower, are believed to already be in negotiations with Villa over taking Bent on loan until the end of the season with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.
A temporary signing would be the ideal solution to Liverpool’s striker problems, as Brendan Rodgers admitted after his side’s 0-0 draw with Swansea that funds may not be available to bring in a permanent recruit.
‘If we can get in the quality in the final third we need to support what we have, then there will be enough to keep the team moving forward,’ said Rodgers.
‘But I am not so sure that will happen in January. This year the club wanted to balance the books and see where we are at.
‘There has been big investment in the club and lots of players went out and a few came in during the summer, so we will look to do some business.’
Whether Villa would settle on a loan deal for a player who cost them £22million just two seasons ago remains to be seen, and boss Lambert insists there’s no rift with the England striker.
'Darren is fine. There's nothing at all. The most important thing is Aston Villa Football Club,' said the Scot.

Tom Werner - recently

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has admitted that mistakes have been made in regards to the failure to replace departed attackers such as Dirk Kuyt, Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy and Maxi this summer.
“Obviously, we have made some mistakes in the past”, admitted the American. “Our intention is to deliver, strengthen the squad and move forward.”
“We know that January is a challenging time and I don’t want to say we’ve got x or y but, hopefully, the fans will be pleased with what we do accomplish.”

Sorry Tom, but if Darren Fucking Bent is it then this fan won't be pleased

regards

Any of you people who don't think the fucking lizards are fucking lizards want your heads testing.

They will not spend another bean while they are here. Grow the fuck up people.

Bent on a free (loan or whatever) will fill a short term need Vlad. He'll score goals, take a bit of the load off Suarez, and is risk-free as far as I'm concerned.

We were never going to spend 20M odd on some superstar, so it's about making do with what we can get.

Why do you think they're filling a short term need? You think the long term need will be sated later? Really?

Well we don't have 20/30 odd mill to wax on Carlos Kickaball right now so I wasn't preparing for a hero to walk in the door come Jan 1.

I don't think we should be blowing that sort of cash on someone either, unless we've got it, and they're fucking 18 years old or something and are prepared to hang around here for 10 years before we get good again.

Nor do I want us to spend another 10M odd on some fucking stopgap like a Downing or a Charlie Adam or whomever. It's a waste, they're never any good, and we'll just be making the same mistakes as we've done for the last 5 years.

Bent on loan is risk-free. He scores goals we're sucking diesel, he doesn't and we fuck him off back to Villa toute de fucking suite. What's the issue?

I agree that Bent would improve the side.

I disagree that he's a temporary fix. He's the only fix. While we're owned by these lizards he's the best we can do. And that raises other questions.

... About lizard bastards or strikers?

Its just that Bent playing for us has had a terrible inevitability for years, I accept it's probably risk free, but only if he scores goals, but I was hoping for so much more in January

I've always championed signing Bent but the reality is that I can't remember the last time I saw him do anything; consistently anyway. So, has that ship sailed? Dunno.
Gut feeling though is he'd be bang up for it and do well for us. He's always been a scorer and usually been undervalued.

I'd take Bent in a heartbeat and shove Suarez wide left

Sometimes I just look down at the keyboard and all I can see in front of is one big fucking key that reads "SHUTTHEFUCKUPDREAMY".

We rubbished this fucking "shutning Suarez out wide" thing last week. Every cunt on this site thought it was a shit idea. Not one person thought your idea was worthwhile. Not one.

Now you tell me, how am I supposed to respond appropriately to that comment of yours?

Its from the Metro.......

The Echo lads said last night on Twitter that they expect the club to sign 2-3 players.
I wouldnt start a revolution just yet.

I'd happily take bent on loan. Hopefully we're after others, but Darren Bent would score goals

^^^This man, he know.

Bent on loan is fine, but he hasn't been good for a while.

I don't really understand why people expect big things this January, and keep seeing more in quotes than are there.

We're not skint, we still make plenty of money. The problem is that money is largely committed to the current squad who with a couple of exceptions are paid significantly more than they're worth. We would not have been able to have a net spend if it wasn't for 30m put in by the owners.

There isn't a whole lot we can play with, the only glimmer of hope is the new Premier League deal might allow us to spend a bit.
