At least one of the English supporters, named as Ashley Mills, was seriously injured, having been reportedly stabbed in the jugular vein, and is understood to be in need of surgery.
Dave Lesley, Stephen Tierney and Christopher Allen have also been named as some of the injured.
The violence flared ahead of tonight's Europa League game between Tottenham and Lazio in Rome.
A group of Spurs fans were attacked by a large gang of notorious “ultra” fans from Lazio in The Drunken Ship pub in Campo de Fiori, a picturesque piazza in the city centre, at around 1.30am.

Many of the Lazio fans wore motorcycle helmets and had scarves wrapped around their faces, reports said.
They appeared to have been deliberately searching for English fans.
Council cleaners were this morning using high-pressure hoses to remove blood stains from the cobblestones outside the pub, which was strewn with shattered glass and bits of broken wood.
Around 10 Spurs fans were injured in the fight and had to be taken to hospital.

Two of them were discharged on Friday morning. “We are trying to contact various hospitals in Rome to see where the rest of them are,” a spokesman for the British embassy told The Daily Telegraph.
“We have found two of them so far, who were taken to San Giovanni Hospital but later discharged. We are also awaiting the report from the police.”
La Repubblica newspaper described the brawl as "urban warfare" and reported that the Lazio fans were armed with knives, baseball bats, belts and knuckle dusters.
The pub, which is popular with tourists and foreign students, was badly damaged.
It is believed police made some arrests at the scene

If this was an English team fans on English or Foreign soil there'd be uproar

The Roman hooligans love to stab people in the backside apparently.

If only there had been some warning signs about the Italians fans behavour

Do they behave similarly to other visiting fans or is it just English teams?

A lad I drink with in the Harry is going over to the Udinese game. My mates looked after the Udinese fans there after the home game and had great craic with them. The Udinese lads told them to come over and they'd get looked after which they are doing. Apparently though Udinese people don't considered themselves Italian and they're supposed to be sort of Catalan\Scousers of Italy.

I didn't realise that about Udinese people. I knew that there's a real north/south divide in Italy and the northerners look upon the south as the bastard love child of Italy.

Neither did I. Appaz these lads were quite vocal in them getting this point across

I suspect the Udine, a bit like other cities in the region such as Trieste have changed nationalities many times down the centuries

It's very close to Slovenia apparently

It is indeed. When you posted about how they don't consider themselves Italian I looked it up thinking it must be in the south somewhere. I couldn't have been more wrong!

The hatred of the English in Rome runs deep.

You have to remember the fascist history of Italy ... that political ideology is embedded in psyche of the majority of the people there.

Lazio are known to be one of the most far right-wing clubs in Italy, with the Irriducibli their main ultras wing. The hatred of the English stems from the Romans blaming the English/British for the downfall of the fascism in Italian society since World War 2. Alot of these guys want to see the rebirth of the fascism that existed under Mussolini, and blame the current political environment that exists in Italy on the British and their influence.

To add, they are animals too ....

What were we thinking of, trying to stop fascism ? They're typical shithouses who roam round in armed gangs looking for unarmed and smaller groups of targets to pick on because they're fucking cowards. There's not a peep out of their so called Ultras when they travel abroad because they know full well they'd get their shithouse arses handed back to them on a plate. The 80s was thirty years ago, WW2 was nearly 70 years ago. They should get over it, the fuckwitted cunts.

Does anyone think it might be some belated revenge from the catholics for that crucifixion thing that went down a while back?
