Is Shelvey The Messiah ?

He's good at scoring though. He's off form because he hasn't been playing regularly. Should have scored today though. Appalling misses and a lack of composure. But I'm glad he gets into the positions to score. I'm just as bullish about him as I always have been.

He played well overall but was rubbish in front if net. This messiah adulation is quite unfounded. He's learning and has potential. No more no less

Shelvey has showed glimpses of a top player.

He needs time and he needs not to be pushed to much especially when we are not winning, same goes for Suso and Raheem with the latter looking the most content with being asked a lot despite his tender age.

Shelvey will not be the one dragging us out of this current slump, not many young players will at the highest levels for several good reasons.

Messi probably being one of very few exceptions to the rule - perhaps Ronaldo as well.

The simple fact is we looked a better team when he came on. Ok so he missed a few but that's due to game time. We don't have many midfielders that at least find themselves in goal scoring positions like he does (and I count Gerrard in that) in the 30 mins of game time he had he could've scored 4 times.

He's not as good as his 'fans' on here say he is, and he's not as bad as his critics on here say he is.

When young players come into the first eleven it's not unusual for them to experience this kind of loss of form after a run of games. He just needs a bit of a rest, that's all. It's not some dramatic decline.

I'd rather see Suso given Shelvey's time in a central midfield berth.

He's simply much better at most things.

Agreed. Suso is much more suited to a central role.

Shelvey's all hype at the minute, does have ability but he has a long way to go.

I'm assuming that you're basing that almost exclusively on today's game because he's been largely anonymous for the last few weeks. Admittedly, Shelvey's form has been poor of late, but I think the danger when you're not doing so well is to blame the team selection. In actuality, the main problem is not so much the team selection, but the players we have to choose from.

He's on par with joke hole, henderson and downing. And he's been piss poor for a couple of months. Thankfully, when everyone is fit, he'll be way down the pecking order thankfully.
